Pearl of the Orient is a short that shows Filipino culture while also advertising Coca-Cola
Of the series of shorts that advertised the soft drink of Coca-Cola on an Amazon Prime special called "Coca-Cola Films", this is the only one that has a listing for review purposes on this site. It begins with some adult men and women dressing quite fancy-like outside at a place with lots of straw displayed on the ground and around open huts doing a unique kind of dance in which they try to put their feet in between a couple of long wooden shaved logs of which those handling them keep hitting them on the ground and toward each other while those dancers try to avoid those logs as they jump one of their feet between those logs as they move like so then put another foot down there as the other one goes back up! I don't know if anyone whose reading this who's not Filipino (like me) understood what I just mentioned. I'll just say watch this short if you can find it! Anyway, among those and other cultural moments shown when the narrator describes them, he also shows many scenes of that country's people enjoying the "pure and wholesome Coca-Cola" (that term is said quite a lot) as well as showing what goes into bottling the liquid and bringing that product to many coolers around the land, something that was also shown in the other Coca-Cola shorts in this special. Oh, and they also show many of the drink's manufacturing buildings in various cities including the capital city of Manila. Mom was watching some of this short with me and during one scene taking place at a university, she ID'd that place as where my dad went to college! There's also a scene near the end where a family outside is serving Lechon (roasted pig) which I'm very familiar with as I eat that whenever Mom and I go to big Filipino parties and picnics! So on that note, I highly recommend Pearl of the Orient.
