10.0 Earthquake (2014)

Goofs

10.0 Earthquake

Edit

Continuity

Throughout the movie, the teens are riding in a black Ford Explorer SUV, only a few years old at most. However, in one shot, it clearly shows a decade-old BMW X5 SUV driving away. Other than being black SUVs, they don't look alike.

Factual errors

In the opening scene, a man is seen burning his hand on a hot valve. This is shown quite clearly, but, not 2 minutes later, he is using the same hand to try and lift a buddy out of danger. With that level of burn, he would not be able to use that hand at all.
The whole idea of charging a mobile phone by "setting it between two human bodies and heating it by rubbing" is ridiculous at best.
When Jack and Hector become trapped on the stairs, Hector begins praying out loud the Hail Mary. Hector says the first part of the prayer correctly, then uses words that are not a part of the Hail Mary.
When the man climbs the palm with the chainsaw, the arrival of the earthquake is "hinted" by the aligned palms in the background moving one after the other: the interval of time of them starting to move is ridiculously long and totally unrealistic.
When the hunter comforts his dog, a tremor causes his shotgun to fall to the ground, causing it to discharge. This is an impossibility with firearms.

Revealing mistakes

When Jack and Stephanie are running away in the truck from the cracks into the concrete basin of the river, there's one shot of the rear of the vehicle that was obviously flipped as the numbers of the license plate appear clearly reversed. And this flipped shot is repeated moments later when Stephanie needs to drive the truck meanwhile Jack tries to recover the phone back in the tray.

Miscellaneous

When the power went off in the cafe, the laptops all went out. Apparently none had working batteries.
At 1:00:10 (Netflix) just after Derrick says "Stop bitchin' and start moving" when the kids are at the waterfall you can see the safety pin that has been used on the back/side of a characters outfit to make her top fit better.
When the dad is crawling after the phone in the truck bed, suddenly the license plate is flipped, as if being viewed in a mirror.

Crew or equipment visible

Ropes used to shake the tree in the piñata scene, are clearly visible during and after the quake.
As Jack is struggling to get to the bed of the pickup, a crew member is clearly visible in the reflection of the rear window.

Plot holes

After bridge collapse on the highway, the kids in the car, abruptly encounter the gap it left. When the car falls, there is no evidence on the canyon floor of the fallen bridge section.
