Summaries

  • Ex-colonel Gerard is poisoned after arguing with his nephew Edward. Edward is a former POW from Korea and the colonel claims he has been brain-washed but Edward sticks to his story that Gerard killed his father in order to marry his widow Ada. None of the household - including Ada's brother Rupert and his adopted daughter Jia-Li - seem upset at the colonel's death and each had a motive for murder. Then Father Brown is poisoned - hopefully he can recover in time to unmask the killer.—don @ minifie-1
  • Father Brown looks into the murder by poisoning of Colonel Cecil Gerard who was found lifeless in his bed. Gerard wasn't very likable and had married his late brother's wife. His stepson Edward always referred to him as his uncle. He also had an adopted daughter Jia-Li. The colonel and Edward had recently quarreled and the younger Gerard had threatened to kill him. Edward had also been a prisoner of war in the Korean conflicted and was traumatized as a result. Inspector Sullivan places Edward under arrest but Father Brown thinks the killer is someone else. Tiger whiskers and corn flour [starch] eventually point him in the right direction.—garykmcd
  • Colonel Cecil Gerard host a festive welcome back from Korean POW camp of his orphan nephew and step-son Edward, who publicly sides with his Communist captors and confides into Brown he suspects his bully guardian of murdering his father, to marry widow Ada. Edward is arrested after Gerard dies from exotic poisoning, with the whiskers of his own trophy tiger, having openly threatened during another bitter row. Brown digs deeper, notably looking into Cecil's parasitic brother in law Rupert Digby and the colonel's adopted Chinese daughter Jia-Li, when a second murder attempt fails to kill him, not by chance.—KGF Vissers
