After "The Yellow Ranger" premiered on Nickelodeon in January of 1984, famed director Steven Spielberg wrote a letter of praise to the four teenage filmmakers (Jon and Rene Teboe and Dan and Steve Frazier.)
The total budget for this Super-8 movie was under $600.
The shot of the train coming over the camera was not stock footage. The four teenage filmmakers dug a small hole, placed a Super-8 camera in between the train tracks and when they saw the train coming, they locked the on- button and ran away. When they developed the film, they discovered the shot was ruined by the vibrations of the train - the camera was knocked over. They repeated their efforts the following week and with a deeper hole and they got the perfect shot.
Screened at the 14th Ann Arbor 8mm Film Festival in February of 1984.
Screened at the 9th Annual Kinetic Image Film Festival on October 6, 1984 in Clearwater Beach, Florida. It also won an honorable mention award.
