Very satisfied

This was the best non-mother related episode. I'm glad after the two episodes (Unpause, How Your Mother Met Me)That The season has picked up. I loved how Barney finally passed on his playbook to two new guys to pick up girls with a very good quote - "It's only legendary when your friends are there". Also, when Craig and Carter brought back the balloon and Ted. The symbolism with letting go of the balloon, and finally let go of Robin finally after 7 years (because season 9 is over the summer of 2013). It was a great episode, and I'm starting to feel that there are only 7 episodes left until the end. Until Ted finally meets the true love of his life, and we get that sweet ending we deserve for 9 seasons of awesome television.

This was a good episode. Definitely one of the better ones in season nine. I think that the show is going to finish out very strong, but the episode did lack in comedy, and the Robin thing at the end when she flew up in the sky like the balloon was a little creepy. But, I got what they were trying to do with Ted having to let her go. I was happy that Lily and Marshall resolved their fight. And, the Barney story line was somewhat funny. Also, I'm a little confused how Barney did all that stuff at 5 o'clock in the morning, but he's Barney. Anyway, I'm very optimistic about how the show is going to end, and I think the best of season nine is still yet to come.

Sunrise (#9.17)

Warning: Spoilers
What a lovely episode. We have all the characters dealing with something that is part of their past, is holding them back and stopping them from being happy in the future and this all is done in a wonderful HIMYM way.

Barney has the lightest story just really fun. And yet it is beautiful and kind of symbolic. He says good bye to his past. But it is not dying it is moving on into the next generation. He doesn't just burn the playbook, he gives it to two guys whom he introduces to Barney life.

Marshall talks to Lily ghost about the fight and it opens his eyes how winning this argument will not really make him a winner as he will lose what really matters to him. I am sad for Lily that she won't go for her dream in Italy. but then I know that this will make her happier being with her Marshall. A beautiful scene at the end when they both win.

And the main part is Ted and Robin. Their conversation where he tells her why he broke up with Victoria was beautiful. And so was the scene where he let's go of her just like he did of the balloon. Right when the sun rises and the new beginning starts (same as for other characters). It also had a very lovely soundtrack.

Overlooked episode
jackstewart2 August 2021
This is one of the most overlooked episodes of the show, and in my opinion the most emotional and sentimental. It's not one of the funniest or most well written but it's so important and means a lot for all 5 of the main characters.

So fulfilling... if it wasn't for the finale
jonas-gulliksen7 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The finale is terrible, we already know this. But now, rewatching the entire series, I'm actually even more angry over the finale.

Before I go on I want to say, I will have spoilers for the season finale!

This is truly and excellent wrap up for the characters. Marshall learnt a valuable lesson in their fight when he was arguing with an imaginary Lily and realized how important they are for each other (I do realize that they have done this arc with Marshal and Lily before but I actually don't think it's been done to this degree).

Barneys storyline is quite funny but it's actually something I find very very heartwarming. The show has been trying to tell us that Barney just drops the game and his whole previous lifestyle without looking back, which I didn't really buy to be honest. It feels unnatural to me that he would just give up all that. But here we can see that he does care for it, just that he now sees that his time is over. It was sweet to see that he is now complete as a character. They give him some more resolution in the upcoming episodes, sure, but this is the one that I truly find touching. That whole pile of great ideas and ideologies for his life isn't something he would just give up. He now passes his lifestyle to someone new and he can finally move on.

Ted finally got what I saw as closure. This whole series, the storyline of Robin and Ted has been a real rollercoaster, but I actually see Robin and Barney more than I do Robin and Ted. That last moment, where he let her go like the balloon I thought was beautiful. Yes, it is a bit cheesy and I can totally see people thinking it was sort of pretentios but it really hit me.

AND THEN THEY DIVORCE BARNEY AND ROBIN AND PUT TED AND ROBIN BACK TOGETHER?!?! They actually redcons this episode which is on that I find very very satisfying. I could go on a longer rant about the ending but I'll move that to the finales review instead. This episode is beautiful, I'll just close my eyes and pretend this is a true conclusion and that the finale doesn't exist.
