Hollywood hillbillies is weak and not funny
Rachilmack24 January 2014
This show is horrible, not entertaining, that Uncle Johnny seems to be trying to act badly or is he that stupid? Won't last long I am sure. I am usually pretty easy to entertain but this show is just bad. It is based upon this kid But everyone is just running around exposing their ignorance. Maybe they are just acting ignorant for the money. They should call it stupid rednecks. There are some reality t.v. Shows I enjoy immensely and was anxious to see this first episode but it will not be Making the list of shows I watch. I knew eventually reality TV would start to explore different options but couldn't we come up With something better? Come on Reelz Channel, get it together.

The Angry Ginger "Coppercab" gets a show....are you kidding?
Jess_A_Smith2 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILER WARNING

About 4 years ago, Michael Kittrell AKA Coppercab became a viral video star almost overnight with his heartfelt troll baiting video "Gingers Do Have Souls." A few years later, he and his "Mema" appeared on Tosh.O in a web redemption segment. And from that, apparently, Reelz decided that this duo needed a show. So, now we have Hollywood Hillbillies.

Hollywood Hillbillies chronicles Kittrell and other members of his backwoods family as they pack up their bags and move to Los Angeles after Michael receives a call from an agent and is offered a position with the talent agency DWE Talent. Along for the ride are the following:

Mema, Michael's grandmother and guardian who is an old school Southern woman in every sense. She's rude, crude, vulgar, and maybe a bit racially insensitive. Of the three family members, she is the loudest and least likely to conform.

Johnny, Michael's uncle and father figure who loves cars and is the stereotypical dumb redneck which is played up as early as the first episode in which he is asks if he is going out to LA on a whim and he replies "No, I'm going on an airplane."

Dee Dee, Michael's aunt and the source of a lot of his annoyance. She is easily the most annoying person in the show. Her voice alone makes the viewers want to slap her. In the latest episode especially, she is quick to get on the family's nerves. A prime example of this is in Episode 3, in which she gets to meet some of the celebrities she can't seem to shut up about wanting to meet.

Paul, Dee Dee's boyfriend who is the definition of a throwaway character. In three episodes, I think he has spoken maybe once.

And Little Pig, Mema's best friend who simply came to LA to be there with her friend. Another throwaway character until Episode 3 in which she and Mema go out on a double date.

This backwoods family relocate for the sake of meeting Michael's talent agent and to get his career started. From the first episode alone, you have this feeling of "I doubt this will even make it to the season finale." The main problem with the show is that it is literally a show given to two people who don't particularly deserve it. On top of this, Michael's agent, David Weintraub, has a pointless mission for Michael. He states in the first episode that his goal is to get Michael into movies and television. Well, guess what, David? Michael has a TV show now without you. What does he need you for?

On top of the pointless plot, the characters are not likable in any way. Michael is simply known for his complaining and whining on Youtube and Mema is only known because of Michael. Bringing in the other members of this "family" does nothing. Along with two people who are none for their outbursts and complaining, we have two annoying stereotypes of redneck culture, even worse with Dee Dee. This is Reelz' equivalent to TLC's Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

At the end of the day, it is unlikely that this show will see a second season, possibly not even a full first season. Watch at your own risk. And in reality, do we really need to support Coppercab more than Youtube already does? He is still a partner on that site so he is still receiving revenue for his viral video. I give this a 1/10.

Hollywood Hillbillies

I thought the purpose of Hollywood was to entertain. This show falls woefully below the mark. I will always change the channel if I see this show coming on. I don't understand how anyone in Hollywood could possibly think that this show would be entertaining. It's disgusting. I would weep for our generation if anyone in any walk of life would find this entertaining. It would make me ill to think that this country has stooped to a point where anyone would find this entertaining. These people clearly have not taken in interest in taking care of themselves-- overweight, no teeth, crude language...WHY would you ever even think that this could be what the American public would want to view?

Loving this show
mysticmaidens9 February 2014
I love this show and stumbled upon it accidentally one night. The reason I love it , is the real love that Michael has for his Mema is genuine. The fact she isn't reserved in her feelings of wanting him to succeed and the matriarch of the family makes me love her all the more. I didn't have grand mothers or grandfathers but he is blessed to have who he has in life and the fact that she laughs and enjoys life is a blessing. If ya'll send em to Savannah there is the Irish festival lots of gingers, there is so much they could see here and enjoy as a family. Michael your a inspiring fellow due to the fact that you love your grandmother and that you are who you are and that is the best thing to be REAL . People have forgotten to love their elders and their families Love and Light Kelly Spurlock

Hollywood Hillbillies are smarter than you think
pegw4219 February 2014
I find Hollywood Hillbillies very entertaining. It reminds me of some of my "country hick" relatives from east Texas. I honestly think this family is not "stupid" as some have suggested, but intelligent, honest country folk. I like the fact that they are enjoying themselves with their adventures in a world not known by most people. I, personally, would like an opportunity like that! I also love the fact that Michael loves his Mema and the rest of the family, and is sharing his success with them, and hope Hollywood does not spoil or change any of them. I sincerely hope the family saves enough money to live comfortably after the show.

Funny entertaining real
tlstls-6669822 October 2023
Funny. Mema is great. It's entertainment n it's funny. Characters are stereotypical but that's how people are. The show has probably improved their life situation anyway and hey they have something to look back on it says there's 23 episodes that could be one or two seasons that it lasted but I'm not going to put them down they're probably being taken advantage of by greedy executives somewhere but everybody seems to be having fun and the modern day Beverly Hillbillies that's a good name for it and for those who think it's another redneck version of Honey Boo Boo well that's a good show too. I tend to like to see how real people from all walks of real life live. Those shows bring out and show the way of life for some people that rich folks don't know about. It's all in good fun.

C'mon people. . .
theSquirmingcoil4 February 2014
I'm generally not one to argue simply for the sake of arguing, but the two previous reviews have earned a retort. HH is silly and crude, our characters are not physically pretty people and once in a while it comes off as scripted, but I must say it made me laugh. While the 'story' revolves around Michael, Me-Maw is the driving force of its lite humor. I can certainly see how this show wouldn't appeal to everyone, but it's not hateful or truly offensive, no more than any other reality show. Yes, Me-Maw's every other word is dam_, but since when has that been offensive? I am from the deep south, and even though the show is mocking rednecks, I can relate to a few of the characters and enjoy it nonetheless.
