For with Libby it has made her feel increasingly more distant from her husband, especially since she finally is recognizing Bill and Virginia's chemistry may be beyond a working relationship. Then, with Virginia sacrificing time with her kids to stroke Bill's ego, among other things, her ex- husband George is recognizing the babysitter is taking more care of the kids than her. Leaving Flo and her story of the big girl who wants to be loved and lusted over.
Topic 1: 6 Weeks Without Mommy - Virginia
With George and the kids back in Virginia's story, finally someone is taking note of all these late nights and sleepovers Virginia is having. In which a poor babysitter is doing nearly daily nights as Virginia is having an affair with Bill under the guise of it being a study. Of which, after his impotence temporarily disappearing, he wants nothing of what helped to be documented. But I digress, for the real focus is George turning around his life around thanks to new wife Audrey.
Though what is being asked of Virginia now is for her to let the kids go with George, for 6 weeks, as he tours Europe. And during this time Audrey, who I'm unsure if Virginia has even met, will be taking care of the kids. Now, 6 weeks with George is part 1 of the issue [1], part 2 is the fact it would be over the holidays meaning Virginia would be alone while her kids are in Europe, Bill with Libby, and she has to come to face an empty home. Reminding her that in the grand scheme of things, she doesn't have anyone. Her last real friendship was with Dr. DePaul, who is dead and buried; Dr. Austin is sort of a friend, but not really; she and Betty don't really have a close knit friendship, though Betty probably admires her to a point; and as for Bill, when they aren't at work there aren't any dinner dates or anything like that. Most of the time it's just a hotel room in which there is either sex, or Bill opening up to her and locking himself back up as soon as they step out of the room.
Topic 2: Lights, Camera, Action! – Bill & Virginia
With Bill and Virginia, thanks to Shep Tally, getting onto CBS, we watch Bill deal with censorship from the network, Virginia be poised and the saleswoman she always has been, and as Bill mellows out, their chemistry show. Something Libby sees and gets a bit jealous of. Even to the point of expressing it to George, who is trying to talk to Virginia about the 6 weeks in Europe, and someone from CBS. Though this is completely justifiable for between Virginia finishing Bill's sentences, knowing what he means to say when he stutters, and really coming off like his actual wife, you can see that dynamic of Libby being the wife he comes home to not really mattering. For he isn't about his home life and his kids, he is married to the work and, in extension, more so married to Virginia than Libby.
Topic 3: Waiting To Be Wanted – Libby, Flo & Bill
And with that established, she decides to go downstairs and continue working for CORE since it gives her purpose. Though with Dr. King in jail in Atlanta, the same day Clarke Gable has a heart attack, there isn't much for her to do since Clake's heart attack is the news story. Dr. King, at the time, is just B news being covered up. So, with Bill still working with CBS upstairs, Robert ends up taking her home and then the most interesting things happen. Libby opens up to Robert like Bill does to Virginia, with her topic being the issue of being the wife in the background, silent, and almost forgotten, and her deciding to kiss and have sex with Robert since with him seeing her, and hearing her, I guess it has led to an attraction.
As for Bill, when at his best when it comes to opening up to Virginia, Michael Sheen puts on a performance, but with it now being about his ego hurt because a microphone man said him and Virginia were like Beauty and the Beast, honestly I rolled my eyes at his whole "I'm ugly, who would like me?" talk. For while I do sometimes think Libby married him for prestige or money, or at least stays with him for that, still it isn't like she doesn't try to show she desires him. It is just he rejects her for whatever reason.
But while Bill's little, "please validate me" moment seems so over dramatic, Flo and Austin's moment seems genuine. For while it certainly is a repeat from the last episode, it feels like we are getting slightly deeper. For with Flo wanting to be ravaged, like the actress was in Gone With The Wind, you can see Austin is basically being used to make up for lost time. Something he still isn't entirely for, yet goes along with for a job. And, as of now, I feel attracted to Flo's story and hope they go deeper into it. For right now it all feels like surface level stuff and I need them to give Flo a back story and a Bill type moment where it is like we are venturing into a scar left unhealed, than just touching dinks in her armor.
