What are the other reviews of this talking about?

Oh dear, it seems someone is wrong on the internet and I have to respond...

I can't even begin to wonder what on earth the other reviewers of this episode were actually watching, as it's clearly not what I just watched. Sure, it's not the best episode ever, but to say (for example) that all of the action of series 9 is contained within the wedding weekend is a big fat lie.

That's not to say this episode isn't without problems - the whole made-up-quest storyline is somewhat clichéd and tired, and would have worked better without using oriental stereotyping. But there are definitely worse episodes of TV out there...

Ode to Tarentino

Throughout this series several movies and shows were parodied. Most notably Cheers and Friends. This episode paradise Quentin Tarentino's movie Kill Bill.

Slapsgiving 3: Slappointment in Slapmarra (#9.14)
ComedyFan201012 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Yes, I would say this is my least favorite episode of the show. It sure isn't the worst I have seen on TV but the worst of How I met your mother. With this episode they sure took a big chance but it didn't end up being high quality comedy.

The story about Marshall on the quest of learning slapping was a bit of cliché and not very original. It didn't bring any high class jokes that actually made me laugh.

That said all actors were wonderful in their roles. It was a good idea to use the characters for the trainers of Marshall just didn't bring great comedy, was just nice to watch them perform, as well as Boyz 2 Men song at the end.

Really this is what we waited for these several years???

Warning: Spoilers
I mean what has happened to HIMYM writers. Are they gone? I think they're really gone because this episode's script was written by a child. Even a child can write a better script than of this episode. Who could believe that once a great show like HIMYM is showing such nonsense and that too in its final season. The Slap for which we all were waiting so desperately happened in such a horrible way, I do not have words to explain that. There is no reference of The Mother whatsoever. I don't know why are they hiding her. Season 9 is the worst season yet so far and I'm highly disappointed. Concluding, this episode does get entitled on one of my lists "The Worst Episodes of HIMYM"

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know what others are talking about :O I think is a was great episode with solid jokes. It didn't bother me at all that the story didn't really go forward that much (at all). I actually like season 9 overall, it has on the funniest jokes on any season of that show. Ending is pretty bad tho.

All in all, this episode was great fun!

One of the Worst Ever
riteshrk8418 January 2014
One of the worst episodes ever !!! They made us wait for one full month to give this nonsensical stuff. The slap, they just spoiled the entire essence of it. Where did the writer come up with totally random stuff like the "One Year in China" thing!? Its disappointing that HIMYM, which has been such an awesome series till last year, has to resort to such pathetic filler episodes!! Maybe this is what happens when you run a series a bit too long. You run out of ideas !! And you just wanna take it to "The End" somehow, even it means spoiling the reputation you made up all these years !! Sorry Season 9, but you have been way below expectations, but still I will be watching you just for the sake of getting done with it!!

What was that?!?!?!?!
Odinson_Marvel14 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Really, what was that? They're joking with us.

I mean, they're literally joking with us.

I thought they would use this holiday break to plan something better, but they just don't care about the show anymore...

I really don't know what to say about this.

My god! Even the actors are bored in this episode!!!

I don't know what to expect from this show anymore.

I mean, I know they're saving everything to the last episode, because they're clearly out of ideas.

But please, then just give us the last episode already. Don't do things like that! Don't just fill the remaining weeks with random things.

Please, just give us the last episode!

Season 9 in horrible
elbreth22 January 2014
One of the best comedy series of recent years is being systematically killed in recent months. The idea of stretching a single event (one wedding) on entire year of HIMYM is... sorry for expression - so idiotic that man who had this idea should be fired from show business.

Even actors look tired, sleepy, bored with shooting same scenes, and throw the same jokes over and over again. If nothing's gonna change (if the action does not move forward) this series will be remembered as a boring and average production of some mediocre television.I'm understand that writers are decided to kill this show, but why everybody agree?

Season 9 is lacking
meggibbs14 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I am a fairly new fan to HIMYM. I started watching about 3 years ago, however, I have seen every episode and season. This season has been, frankly, painful. I keep hoping each episode we will get more action with the mother or at least see clips of her and Ted in the future. It seems the writers are going to allow the wedding to be the very last episode which really sucks in my opinion. I, and many other fans, were hoping to see Ted and the mother's life together. Instead we continue to get "fill in" episodes like this one. The writers could easily have used this season to show maybe the progression of Ted and the Mother's relationship instead of giving us boring after boring episode. I am a huge HIMYM fan and am very disappointed.

Now onto this episode, which has been one of the more painful this season. The mother was not even shown. We have waited a month only to see yet another episode that contains material the writers have already used multiple times. I enjoy hearing about the Slap Bet and whatnot, but I wanna see more. This episode had a fairly good build up to the slap, and don't get me wrong, if this was an episode in Season 7 it'd be pretty good. But this is the last season. As for the slap itself, it was kind of lame in my opinion. It could have been cooler. The montage at the end was good along with Boyz II Men.

I really hope the writers will give better material for this show that millions love.

Another junk episode
puzgolac11 June 2022
Fittingly for such a horrible season, here is another stupid, meaningless, senseless garbage of an episode. As several reviewers have rightly noted, all of the slap bet episodes are lame, and the idea itself is pretty stupid to begin with. Not to mention the glaring inconsistencies with the characters - Marshall, for example, is portrayed at the same time as being the nicest person in the world, who, apparently can't even argue with people, but at the same time he is a sadistic psychopath who enjoys physically assaulting one of his best friends? Wow, what a great idea.

Also, this is another episode in which the writers admit defeat concerning the "bright" idea to contain the whole season within the wedding weekend. They have already proved that they do not have the skills to pull it off, so, after a bunch of boring filler episodes, they have started resorting to "backstories" that take us away from the wedding because even they have seen how ridiculous it is to try and milk the wedding theme on and on.

BEST EPISODE EVER ( FUNNIEST ), woow
dacka-3582516 February 2021
I know that a lot of people doesn't like this season, but i really like it. I know it's kinda weird, but this season is really interesting, creative and original. I love moments with Ted and the mother, but it's not like i want to watch the two of them all season. Everyone rates episodes based on whether mother is in that episode. Some episodes, that aren't so funny, are rated with 8 or higher, and those that are funny are rated with 5. This episode, in my opinion, was one of the funniest episodes, and everyone rated it with 1 because the the producers didn't show us mother. I don't know why it is so important for the mother to be in every episode of the 9th season.

Very disappointed
xtremruleslokesh14 January 2014
What the hell is wrong with you guys. What on earth is going on with your writers. I mean this slap should have been for writers and everyone. I am so disappointed with this final season specially this episode. You are better than this. I hope rest of the episodes are just as awesome as we expect them to be. I wish you have not done something like this again in upcoming episodes. Talk to cast of show I am sure they have figured out till now that it was a bad idea or may be you all were shooting it without even reading story. HIMYM is all about unexpected humor with new and creative stories. Please don't forget this.

from bad to worse to a candidate for worst.
xtophercb30 September 2014
so fully disappointed in the episode. agree with most of the others here who don't see the value in the show this season. it's such a shame after so many seasons and so many good and even great episodes. but now we have too many non-cannon story lines, an entire season of one weekend's wedding, not enough time spent on the actual mother, actors seeming to have already checked out (even though they say in countless interviews how excited they were to find out the end from producers) but seriously my biggest gripe is... f'in boyz- 2-men at the end. WTF?!? why?!? because it wasn't bad enough already?!? i was already bored enough after the 3rd episode of this season. by now i'm just numb to it. so sad they've got out on such a low note.

Rubbish
sprice_boy28 December 2019
Rubbish, boring episode to be avoided. All the slap episodes are pretty rubbish to me, but even for a filler episode this one is lame. One good thing is it doesn't feature much of whiny Ted or annoying aggressive Robin.

Worst episode of HIMYM
brunobetesda3 August 2014
It's ironic that the worst episode of the entire series is followed by one of the best episodes (How Your Mother Met Me). I really enjoyed the end, but i have to agree with those who say that the 9 season of this amazing show almost ruined the show itself. And it's so sad because a show its always remembered by its final season, in my point of view. It was a wasted episode. The authors should have used this time to show us a little more about the mother, a little more about her relationship with Ted. The criticism around the final episode is, at least the most part of it, around the short time of Mother's life on screen. In sum: unfunny, wasted time, boring episode.

Dumbest episode in entire series
rameshgundamala15 April 2022
So boring and really bad episode in the entire series Because its the final season. Creators and the writers must be cautious when they are doing the final season.

This one is a total dissappointment, Its like they are out of ideas and inserted slapsgiving .

A great addition to the slap saga!
tom-clay31 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't understand the bad reviews. Just because it's the final season doesn't mean we have to see the mother.

The slap saga is so funny and the Kill Bill parody was genius. Someone wrote in another review "it's obvious even the actors are bored at this point" which is woefully incorrect and ignorant. The cast clearly enjoyed this one and had a ball filming it.

Hats off to everyone involved.
