Good anime, if a bit jumbled
ajrcvr12 June 2016
If this had been the first anime I'd ever seen, I might have rated it lower, but the perspective of seeing many of them gives one a better view. I waited until I saw all four offerings of the "Familiar of Zero" series before rating it, since the first three are a bit more helter- skelter. Stories with magic in them always will be since the creators can make anything happen, which removes a lot of the drama, since no situation is so dire that a little more magic can't change it for the better (or worse); but they managed to keep most of the pie-in-the-sky magic under wraps and provided some kind of rules - although, admittedly, not many - in place for the magic that they do employ. You know, like real life, where nothing is limitless! The storyline of a girl - Louise - who loves but keeps beating up on her lover, Saito, while constantly denying it really gets old, really after a few episodes; so when the author keep on putting that in there, it's tiresome and even gets to be distracting, since they actually manage to come up with pretty fair plot lines and dramas, enough to keep the thing interesting. Plus, it does strain credibility that a guy would continue to love and respect a girl, no matter how cute and sexy she is, when she keeps denying her feelings about him and blowing him up with her magic powers! Especially when there are other beautiful, bustier, and sexier females around him who care about him, but, that's part of their story; it just could have been done much better so that it's not disappointingly goofy. But, they do have some decent story arcs in the series which are interesting to watch, and enough pretty female eye candy to make any male happy, and they don't let the magic get in the way of the actual story. So, altogether, it works and is an entertaining series to experience.

Bad start good end

Warning: Spoilers
I really liked the first two seasons of this anime, but I really didn't like the third one. This season has a little of both. The start of the season the mc cheats on Louise like 19 times and has no remorse, which sucks. However, the last few episodes of this season are by far the best in the series by a whole lot. The ending is really good, by far the best part of the entire series, but it was weird that *spoiler* they killed off his sword, had it come back, and then killed it again. I guess it just lives in his hand but that's a bit odd. Idk, this anime in general kinda sucked, but I liked it. The harem elements definitely made it worse, and they made me want to drop the show, but other than that it was actually pretty good and entertaining. It's just really hard to like the mc's when one is a serial cheater and the other is a sadist.

4 years in the making!

Warning: Spoilers
Before beginning this review, as a huge fan of this show, this is a pretty biased review to be honest lol, i watched the first 3 seasons of Zero No Tsukaima back around in 2009/2010 and it became pretty much my favorite anime of all time (and still sits around there to this day) then rewatched the first 3 seasons a couple of times over the years hoping for the 4th and final season to be made, (since i watched them in 2009/2010, i only had to wait 2 out of the 4 total years between the 3rd and 4th season) and then it was made!

Great romance/ecchi/comedy anime, ranks up as my all time favourite anime (tied with Girls Bravo and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood) anyway for me even though the overall plot of season 4 was a bit all over the place and in some cases didn't even make sense, the main romance between louise and saito was the main point imo, and we finally got probably the happiest ending in anime history! :P So in the end for me as a huge Zero No Tsukaima fan, it was great to finally have closure and a great ending to the great series that i really enjoyed for what it was :)
