It was claimed that the salmonella outbreak was the first case of biological warfare in the US, which is incorrect. Dr Anton Dilger, an American-born/German educated physician born to German immigrants agreed to help Germany during WW1. He brought anthrax to the US with the intent to sabotage American horses and mules that were to be shipped to Europe to help the Allies. With help from pro-German dock hands, thousands of animals (and several humans) died from 1915-1916.
