Hannibal proves to be cinematic poetry in its purest form. This episode proves why this might be the best currently airing show, if not one of the best shows ever.

So where to begin complimenting a show like Hannibal, when it's almost perfect on any level, technically or creatively.

The second season in itself may be one of the most accomplished seasons of a television show ever and this episode specifically summarizes exactly why.

There's a lot to take in as a viewer, the filmmaking is absolutely polarizing. Not only is the direction in every episode as good as it gets, the more subtle parts are just as good. What many may have noticed by now is the absolutely superb sound design, every episode is almost constantly accompanied by a very atmospheric, almost hypnotizing soundtrack, which perfectly symbolizes the state of mind our main characters are in. While episodes centered around Will Graham are accompanied by a very wild, chaotic and disorienting soundtrack, episodes like this one, that are centered around Hannibal are accompanied by compositions that remind of operas, of classical music, specifically here the piano piece composed by Hannibal Lecter himself.

The cinematography is just as superb as almost any other aspect of the show. It's grim, gray and dark. The whole look appears very sterile, like it's hiding something. The costume designers aren't to be ignored here as well. Hannibals attires are very formal and clean. Hannibal is being described as wearing a man suit at one point in the show, he's hiding his whole self underneath his exquisite appearance.

Obviously there's much more, but I wanted to point out some things that maybe not everyone knows to appreciate. And there's a lot to appreciate here, maybe more than in any other show airing these days.

It's beautiful, it really is. When Hannibal prepares human meat in the most professional way imaginable while being accompanied by a beautiful classical piece of music in the background, you can sense that Hannibal is a pure connoisseur. He's a composer, a psychiatrist, a surgeon, a star cook who appreciates the true nature of culinary art. He's not insane, or a psychopath. He is absolutely conscious of who he is, he's simply said an artist.

I could keep on writing for hours, there is a lot to analyze and take in, as I already said. Fact is, that Hannibal is cinematic poetry which is very rarely found these days. This show shapes up to be a technical and creative masterpiece that maybe comes along every 20 years. It's a hypnotizing, riveting, gruesome, transcending show, where you as a viewer are easily able to suspend disbelief and get completely lost in it.

Possibly the best episode in the history of Television
nraina015 April 2014
I'm a connoisseur of TV Shows of all genres (Game of Thrones, Banshee, Suits, True Detective).

In a sense, I always thought Hannibal had sort of a handicap, seeing as how there weren't any adrenalin fueled fights.

But by god, was I surprised tonight.

Everything about this episode, from the start to end, was FLAWLESS. The powerhouse performances by Hugh, Mads, and Lawrence; the plot twists (!!!) and even though I'd always sort of predicted what was shown in the ending scene of this episode, they couldn't have picked a better time to reveal it.

The gloves are off! True showdown between Hannibal and Will Graham starts next week.

No TV Show-EVER-has made the weekly wait so painful for me.

Warning: Spoilers
So at the beginning of this episode Crawford confronts Graham in the Dunk Tank to accuse Graham of being behind the attempt on Lecter's life.

What I really love is when Lecter is cutting up human organs in his kitchen right in front of people, lol, ready to cook!!!!

+1 Star for Beautiful Beautiful meal prep!!! I hope Dr. Bloom enjoys!!!

And we have yet another Ripper Crime Scene. As Crawford goes back to Lecter's to drink wine and discuss the case.

Of course Graham told Crawford that the Ripper is eating the human organs, and that you better notice that whenever the Ripper makes a kill that Lecter usually has a 'dinner party', so Crawford and Graham have probably sat there at Lecters table and EATEN organs of the very victims whose murders they are investigating!!! Oooo now that's some classic TV!!!! LOL...

+1 Star For Lecter's lovely lovely dinner parties!!!!!!

+1 Star for some amazing images in this episode. The Stag. Oh the Stag!!!!

Poor Izzard. Crawford comes to see Izzard supervised by Chilton in the Dunk Tank, to ask about information on the Ripper. Chilton is not happy at all about the tone Izzard takes. Shortly afterwards, two asylum guards escort Izzard on the proverbial long walk off a short pier.

Along to the dinner party!!! Dear God does Lecter know how to throw a great party or what???? Crawford really is looking at the food in a different light after Graham's introspective analysis of Lecter's parties!!!

Altho Gideon/ Izzard survived the long walk the Ripper, visits him in the hospital, beautifully setup with an alibi for having an overnight guest. And Crawford walks into it , making himself feel like a fool im sure when Bloom is able to account for Lecter's whereabouts.

LOL, and Lecter prepares for Gideon such a succulent dish. This is another one right out of the Hannibal movie, prepare a meal for someone with something served right off their body. And Gideon, he's like what the hell I'll try it, even knowing what it is he's eating!!! Some truly sick characters in this show!!

Graham makes a discovery at the end, perfectly accompanied simultaneously by Lecter's harpsicord play!

+1 Star for the Ending scenes....

This episode was very well done. 9/10

Another episode that proves why this show is a must watch!

This was another gripping experience, with surprising development and a shocking end!

Mads Mikkelsen continues to capture Hannibal really well! To me he was really cold and sinister, especially in that "Dinner scene" with Gideon, that almodt felt like an out of body experience, do to how.. extreme it was!

Jack also starts to feel that things may not be quite what they seem, which leads to some great scenes with him and Hannibal, who always seem one step ahead!

The ending was shocking and proved to me, that you should expect anything from this show! This was another masterclass episode of television!

Pure Cinema [9.3/10]

Warning: Spoilers
My Reaction / Review for Hannibal Season 2 Episode 6: Episode 5 was great and I gave it a rating of 8.5/10. How many times the Chesapeake ripper has to kill before they realize that Will is innocent? That's the question. Hannibal's cooking is always so wonderful if you just stop thinking that it's people he is cooking. Gideon died? I hope not. Jack probably wants the food to go because he wants to test if it's animal or human. Hannibal seems very anxious. Alana and Hannibal kiss? I didn't expect that. They sleep together too? Damn. Hannibal took Gideon from the hospital? Interesting. Alana and Hannibal have zero chemistry. Will and Alana have better chemistry. Wow Hannibal cooked Gideon's leg, that's nuts. Gideon ate his own foot and liked it, these two are so disturbed. So Hannibal served animal food not human. Im sure he knew that Jack is suspicious and didn't wanna risk it. Miriam is alive, what a plot twist. Wow, what an episode. My rating is 9.3/10.
