- LOGLINE: "After a surprise visit from his pretentious boyfriend, a talented young singer must navigate their first meet and greet with his no-nonsense mother." At the onset, we have a homecoming of sorts as the wildly talented Gabriel Williams, a mousy, young college student, visits his mother. It is heavily implied that he is on one of his routine breaks from school. Hattie "Momma" Williams, a jovial, plus size progressive southern belle, greets her son with an overwhelmingly loving embrace. Soon, Gabriel is serenading his mother in the living room. This also serves as a rehearsal for their forthcoming Mother-Son Day Bazaar. However, they are abruptly interrupted by Chad, a snarky, middle-aged, shade-throwing narcissist, who turns out to be Gabriel's boyfriend. Needless to say, Chad makes a horrendous first impression. He even attempts to bar young Gabriel from performing at the Bazaar as Momma Hattie spends much of her time feverishly trying to convince her son that he not only deserves better, but he can certainly do better. What (or whom) will Gabriel choose?—Eric Bendross
- At the onset, we have a homecoming of sorts as our protagonist Gabriel Williams, a mousy, young college student, visits his mother. It is heavily implied that he is on one of the typical breaks from school. Hattie "Momma" Williams, a jovial, plus size progressive-southern-belle, greets her son with an overwhelmingly loving embrace. Soon, Gabriel is serenading his mother. This also serves as a rehearsal for their upcoming Mother-Son Day Bazaar, an event that Gabriel has been looking forward to sharing with his supportive mother as well as other loved ones and friends.
However, their harmonious reunion is abruptly interrupted by Chad, a snarky, shade-throwing-narcissist, who turns out to be Gabriel's new boyfriend. Chad's arrival throws a wrench into the festivities as he makes a horrendous first impression with his condescending remarks and dismissive attitude towards Momma. Chad even questions the soundness of Gabriel's vocal technique.
Momma, sensing her son's discomfort and Chad's toxicity, spends much of her time trying to convince Gabriel that he not only deserves better but that he certainly can do better than Chad. As tensions rise between Gabriel and Chad, Momma's unwavering support and wisdom become the guiding light for Gabriel as he navigates his relationship with Chad and his own sense of self-worth. With Momma's encouragement, Gabriel begins to see his own value and finds the strength to stand up for himself, ultimately making a decision that will shape the course of his future.
