Synopsis

  • New Orleans 1961 A young black boy bicycles through a neighborhood and notices a truck on his tail. He pulls into an alley and three white men get out and corner him.

In her hair salon, Marie worries about a friend who sent her son to the integrated high school. The friend has faith in the future, but Marie isn't so sure. Cut to the woman retrieving her son's body from where it hangs dead from a tree.

Marie conducts a ceremony using snake blood, fire, drumming and general voo doo magic. The white men congratulate themselves for killing Henry.

Meanwhile, Marie's spell begins to take effect and the dead begin rising from their graves and approaching the racists. Their bullets won't stop the zombies, who rip the racists apart.

Alone in his room, Spaulding the mute butler hosts a tea party for hundreds of dead eyed dolls. He pours them tea, enjoying his alone time. But he hears Fiona screaming at Madison and goes downstairs. As Spaulding wraps Madison up in the carpet, Fiona tells him it's her duty to stay vital, the coven can't afford a lousy supreme. "I've always enjoyed our little talks together, particularly since you lost your tongue," she tells him.

They hear a crash from the greenhouse (where Queenie was offering herself to the minotaur). Queenie is on the ground bleeding with the minotaur nearby.

Fiona wakes Cordelia up to help. Cordelia blames her mother, for provoking Marie. Fiona says she went there to show strength, and Cordelia going only showed Marie that her magic is stronger than theirs.

Cordelia notices Queenie has stopped breathing. Fiona leans over her and breathes above her and Queenie gasps. Fiona tells her they'll handle everything internally from now, they don't want the Council showing up on their doorstep.

Upstairs, Fiona finds Madame LaLaurie hiding from the minotaur. She can't believe Queenie saved her. Fiona knows the minotaur was coming for LaLaurie, but tells her not to say anything about it.

A delivery comes to Marie Laveau's -- it's the minotaur's head in a box. Its eyes are still blinking.

At Kyle's house, Zoe stops him from repeatedly banging his head against the toilet. She tries to clean him up. She apologizes to him, saying she didn't mean for any of it to happen. She goes to make him food. As she mixing tuna, she sees rat poison on the top shelf. When she brings the food back to him, he's gone.

The streets are filled with trick or treaters for Halloween.

Back at the house, LaLaurie thinks Halloween is the end of the harvest, when people put out food offerings lest "fearful pranks ensue." It's Fiona's favorite day of the year. She's going dressed as a witch.

At Marie's hair salon, her friend Chantai tries to prevent her from reigniting a war with the witches.

Decades ago, she signed a truce with the previous Supreme Anna Lee, dividing the town into territory for each group.

Marie argues the truce is over and they have to fight back.

Cordelia talks to Hank, who is in Baton Rogue for a job. He tells her he's about to meet with Phil Underwood, but it's a young woman named Caylee who knocks on his hotel room door. After some extremely enthusiastic sex, she tells him she loves Halloween, "it gives people permission to be who they want to be." Hank was a monster last year.

Cordelia sits by Queenie's bedside. When she wakes up, LaLaurie tells her she doesn't know how to thank her for saving her life.

The council arrives unannounced. As Cordelia hugs Myrtle Snow hello, she asks: "How screwed am I?" Myrtle whispers at her to breathe.

The council assembles under only the gravest circumstances. Cordelia thinks they're there because of Queenie, but that's not it. Cordelia apologizes for going to see Marie, but that's not why they're there either.

Finally, Fiona waltzing in and saves Cordelia from herself. She greets Quentin as a "vicious old queen," and reminds him it was her magic that put him on the best seller list. She is cool and dismissive to the third, Pember.

Myrtle explains they were summoned by one of the students -- Nan. Nan explains she can't hear Madison anymore and thinks she's dead. That's why they're there.

Myrtle begins the inquest on the disappearance of Madison. The punishment for harming a Salem descendant is death by fire. Myrtle asks if Madison seemed particularly powerful. Cordelia notices her rug is missing.

Nan tells them about her setting the neighbor's curtains on fire.

Caylee prepares a vending machine lunch of soup and burritos for Hank. He's a USDA inspector. She asks if he has a girlfriend in every city. They met in an online group dedicated to collecting Thomas Kincaid paintings. "I really like you," she says. "Is that a problem?" he asks. "It is if you're going to break my heart," she says.

He coolly takes out a gun and shoots her through the head.

Back at the Academy, the council gives Fiona a hard time for how she's run things, or rather hasn't. Myrtle asks why Fiona came back.

She reminds Fiona this is the second time a witch has gone missing from the house and both times Fiona was the last to see her alive.

New Orleans 1971 The council conducts an inquest into Anna Lee's disappearance. A tearful young Fiona says Anna Lee took a bottle of wine as a peace offering, implying that Marie Laveau was involved.

The council announces that Fiona is the new Supreme-elect. Young Myrtle can't believe that Fiona is getting away with murder.

Later that night, Myrtle casts a spell to compel the truth.

At dinner that night, Myrtle tells one of the girls that she thinks if Fiona did do something, Spaulding knows about it and she compelled his tongue so he can't tell a lie. The council has called him for a closed session tomorrow.

Later that night, the house is roused by screams from the bathroom, where Spaulding lies on the floor with his tongue cut out. Fiona shoots Myrtle a dirty look.

Back in the present, Myrtle tells Fiona she won't keep getting away with things. She calls Spaulding to testify.

Myrtle tells him justice is near, all he has to do is write the name of the witch who cut off his tongue. He glances at Fiona then writes. He hands the note to Myrtle, it bears her name.

Back in 1971, Spaulding hears Myrtle explain the spell she cast on his tongue. Later that night he takes out a straight razor in the bathroom. Fiona comes to see him, summoned by his note. "These are my last words," he tells her. "I have always loved you."

He picks up the razor and slices his own tongue off.

Back in the present, Myrtle looks at her name on his pieces of paper and screams over Fiona getting away with it again. Cordelia comes to her mother's defense. She says Madison wasn't the next Supreme.

"The hallmark of any Supreme is glowing, radiant health. Madison had a heart murmur," she explains. (We see Madison checking her vitals.)

"I'm sorry Myrtle. For 40 years you've been barking up the wrong tree -- my mother is the Supreme for a reason," she says.

Marie performs another spell, using an even bigger snake and more dead rise from their graves.

In the house, Nan is sure Madison is dead. Zoe wants to go look for her, but Fiona told them to stay inside.

Back in his creepy room, Spaulding puts on a pretty nightie and bonnet then gets a frilly old lace nightgown which he brings to put on Madison's dead body, which he has propped up in the corner.

Fiona takes her daughter out and buys her a whiskey. Cordelia suggests they eat ask each other three questions and swear to answer honestly.

"Why do you hate Hank?" "Because, Delia, he reeks of bull---- and I don't see how you cannot see that," Fiona says. Next, Fiona says she did not kill Madison.

Fiona asks her who she thinks the next Supreme is. Cordelia asks if she feels her powers weakening.

Cut to Cordelia throwing up in the bathroom. A hooded figure comes out and tosses a liquid in her face -- burning her.

Back at the house, Luke Ramsay brings Nan cookies to pay her back for the cake she brought over.

There's a pounding at the door. Madame LaLaurie opens the door to three really good zombie costumes -- actually the dead bodies of her three daughters. Outside the house, more dead approach.
