- Neal and Peter race against a criminal mastermind to unearth an invaluable treasure hidden in New York.
- After Peter and Neal find Mozzie, injected with something, Rebecca calls telling she has poisoned him and will trade the antidote for the diamond. Interpreting Mozzie's symbols, which he realizes are numerical, as geographical coordinates leads the trio to Fort Totten in Queens, where Mozzie spots the clue to the diamond's location before collapsing. Mozzie is hospitalized and successfully treated for belladonna toxin after Jones and Diana determine from which plant Rebecca got the poison. Peter and Neal find the diamond and call Rebecca, who sneakily followed them and holds them at gunpoint, locks them in a cell and prepares to leave by helicopter, but they escape. Neal reveals that he switched the diamond with a similar-sized piece of brick before handing it over to convince her to surrender. Peter confidently asks the FBI for Neal's release. Neal plans to go straight, but the FBI director refuses to sign off , Peter speculates because Neal is too useful. Disillusioned, Peter tells Elizabeth he wants to stay in his current position closer to field work; she agrees but wants to take the job in DC. A bitter Neal asks Mozzie to circumvent the new anklet. After Mozzie leaves, Neal recognizes and confronts a man who has been following him, but is then grabbed and thrown in a van, without his anklet.—KGF Vissers
- We open with Neal and Peter reviewing Rebecca's escape. She badly beat a corrections officer and walked out of the facility in the uniform. They realize she will have changed her appearance and grabbed one of her extra Go Bags. But they also know she won't leave town without the diamond. Neal gets a call.
At Neal's apartment they see that Mozzie was jumped by Rebecca. He finds a needle mark on his arm and wonders if perhaps he was given a truth serum to gain info on the diamond. A burner phone rings in one of Neal's books. It's Rebecca, who says she's given Mozzie a fatal poison. If Neal doesn't find her the diamond he'll be dead in approximately five hours. Mozzie won't go the hospital, instead preferring to help Neal and Peter find the jewel. Peter helps them look at the Mosconi symbols. They figure out they must represent latitude and longitude and trace the numbers to a Fort Totten in Queens. It was designed by the Masons and would have been active when Mosconi was living in New York.
Jones tells Diana about Mozzie being poisoned by Rebecca. She decides to check on recent police incident reports. There was a robbery at the greenhouse of Hanawalt Pharmaceuticals. They decide to check it out.
Neal, Peter and Mozzie arrive at Totten. They are greeted at the gate by a ranger named Hopper who says he'll help however he can.
With Mozzie's symptoms growing worse they begin to search the fort. Mozzie spots a stairwell and they climb. They head to another area where Mozzie proceeds to fall to the ground. Before he passes out he says "Oh, now I see."
Mozzie is taken away by ambulance. Peter tells him Elizabeth will be waiting for him there. Peter and Neal realize Mozzie had been looking at the ceiling when he made his last comment and return to the area. They spot a hexagon and decide they need to reach even higher, to ascend the way the Masons always aspired.
Diana and Jones look at the greenhouse footage and see Rebecca pulling plant after plant, clearly in an effort to fool anybody who saw the film. Jones thinks she stopped at one particular plant near the edge of the camera's reach.
On the roof Neal and Peter find a flagpole. They look 33 degrees from that spot and see the gun powder room, which would have been a heavily-guarded room at the time. Neal finds some bricks that are actually clay, painted to look like brick. They break it open and find the diamond. Neal calls Rebecca and tells her he has the diamond. She gives them a location and warns them no funny business. Peter wants to arrange back-up but Neal thinks it's too dangerous. While Peter makes the arrangements Neal thinks it all sounds too easy. At this moment Rebecca shows up with her gun drawn. She takes the diamond, then tells Neal she'll tell them the antidote as soon as she's safely out of the city. Neal is pissed. She locks Neal and Peter in a cell and runs off.
Diana and Jones think that Rebecca gave Mozzie deadly nightshade. The doctor wants to wait until the results come back, but Elizabeth demands she give Mozzie the medication immediately.
Neal and Peter kick their cell door down. Hopper shows up and tells them Elizabeth said Mozzie is responding to his treatment.
Neal rushes up and starts talking to Rebecca as her helicopter circles. He tells her to check her pocket and she discovers the diamond is missing. She points her gun at him and he says he doesn't have it anymore. Cut to Peter and we see him pull it out of his pocket. Rebecca's helicopter takes off, likely having heard that the city's law enforcement community is on its way. Rebecca briefly thinks about trying to trade Neal for the diamond, holding her gun to his head, but he gently reminds her that it's over.
Neal, Peter, Elizabeth celebrate at Mozzie's bedside. They let Mozzie hold the diamond. Peter says he's going to turn the diamond over to the State Department. After Peter and Elizabeth leave, Mozzie reminds Neal that he still isn't free.
Neal leaves the hospital and it looks as if he's being followed.
Neal arrives at the bureau and asks Peter if something's up. Peter says he's made a call to Washington and told them Neal deserves his freedom. Neal's release is in motion and may happen in a few days. Peter threatens to hunt him down if he pulls anything illegal.
Neal tells Mozzie about his freedom and says he's "giving up the life." Neal wants to travel. Mozzie thinks Neal living without the finer things is like him having no oxygen. Neal turns around and spots a man in the shadows.
Peter gets a call from DC. Neal goes to Peter's place and is told that the FBI director thinks his escape to Cape Verde last year ruined his chances for release. Peter has been told the FBI considers Neal an asset and does not want to lose him. A furious Neal storms away.
Peter goes inside and tells Elizabeth about Neal having to serve his sentence at White Collar. Peter doesn't want to go DC now and Elizabeth is behind his decision. But she's still going to work in DC and Peter understands why.
Mozzie and Neal talk about his future. Neal still wants his freedom, "however I can get it." Mozzie walks off and Neal spots the man who has been following him. The man says "I'm about to become the last person on Earth who knows where you are," and two other men stick a bag over Neal's head and throw him into a van. The vehicle drives off, the driver tossing Neal's broken anklet into the back of a passing truck.
