Sixteen trillion dollars. The amount of the USA's debt is the contemporary bogeyman - weirdly abstract and yet a perfect breeding ground for the greatest fears : recession, disturbance of the food and fuel supplies, defiance of the citizens against the authorities, millions of weapons in circulation. Many disparate elements that, once put together, could lead to a civil war and the possible annihilation of the American Empire. The Collapse follows three survivalists who foresee a great catastrophe headed their way. This is Americana as epidemic, the sad desperation, juxtaposed in beautiful transitions of halcyon nightmares made real, armed and dangerous minds that are caught in a self-unaware paranoid delusion that they have conquered themselves before they could conquer the world the way they were told they were conquerors of in pre-schools that are no longer funded because of war debt. This is the pathos of the modern day apocalypse anticipation driven by fast food adrenaline paced fears that the flag is just cloth and justice was never going to be fair. This is the future unraveling in preparedness for the catastrophe that the world looks upon and knows all to well, from experience, if you have to prepare like that for that then you have already lost and your exercise in combat gymnastics is just another failed attempt at a morality play history where you try to re-write all the rules in your favor, only your favor has already left the building.—A.
