Hell of an interview!
snoozejonc13 March 2023
After evidence is gathered, AC 12 move on Denton.

This is a compelling episode with strong character moments.

This is another great character-driven chapter focused on Denton, who is brilliantly portrayed by the writers and Keeley Hawes. Regulars like Hastings, Arnott and Fleming are used well by the writers, as is 'The Wire' influenced top brass character Dryden who appears to be another frustratingly self-serving senior figure.

There are some questionable aspects of plausibility. Notably how various individuals could be in certain job roles with such compromising personal lives. However, it nevertheless makes for intriguing fiction.

For me the best moments of 'Line of Duty' are the AC12 interviews and this one is a classic.

Great episode, but sometimes shows weak moments of scriptwriting
b-7116020 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
This episode could've been 9 or 10, but loses points on weak writing.

Arnott investigates Gates and discovers a brunette in her 40's. Then he reads the hit and run file and guess what? There's a brunette in her 40's. And he thinks "wow, that must be the one. What are the chances of Gates having an affair with a woman? Who happens to be around his age or younger? Who happens to have the most rare hair color in the United Kingdom? This must be her!"

Real coppers would say "that's a coincidence" rather than "that's direct evidence." You don't go out on a limb saying "I'm sure it's her" unless you're definitely sure. For example, showing the waitress a lineup of images, working with a sketch artist, etc. Arnott did none of those things. He just jumped to conclusions which, due to the weakness of the script, happened to be 100% correct. He made 1 guess and hit the jackpot. Detective work is about proof, not guesswork. This could've been easily resolved by just showing the Polish waitress a photo array.

The cops appear to be incompetent in many aspects of their duties. A child throws a bag of white powder over a fence in a neighborhood they're investigating right in front of their eyes and they miss it. They fail to secure a crime scene, letting bystanders steal the shoes off a corpse. They don't ask burglar if he committed robbery (a more serious crime) or assault on the old man, even though the crimes a linked. (There's a record of a robbery/assault, a criminal cannot confess to burglary in that instance. You don't get to choose a lesser charge. You can't rape someone, burn their house and steal their TV and then just confess to stealing the TV and not get questioned about the other crimes.)

There are just too many things that don't make sense that could've been fixed before shooting.

It's still an entertaining show and I still rate it 8.

Oh Lindsay Denton.
Sleepin_Dragon6 September 2020
AC12 continue to look I to Lindsay Denton's involvement with the ambush, Kate is undercover and Denton is under fire.

I am a massive fan of this show, I get chills when I hear that music, it's been fabulous each time around, but this episode has ways stuck in my mind. It builds and builds until that incredible interview, where Denton is bombarded, but is smart enough to turn the tables.

Is Lindsay Denton the finest character created outside of AC12? I'd argue she is, she's so complex, so merciless, and to this day I still can't determine where she sits in terms of innocence or guilt, so well written.

Not many shows have the ability to pack in so much drama, tension and shock as this did in the first two episodes.

A near perfect continuation, 10/10.
