Rayna says she hopes they can have a relationship with her anyway. She then tells them she's taking them to the Symphony gala and they can dress up and have fun. Daphne is thrilled, Maddie literally scowls and says "big whoop."

Peggy is in the bathroom looking at a negative test, having failed to get pregnant into tricking Teddy into believing she was. She comes out and he's buzzing that a congressional exploratory committee is interested in having him run for a soon-to-be vacant senate seat. He comes from a long line of senator's and although his dad besmirched the Conrad name, Teddy thinks he can turn it around. In a roundabout way he asks Peggy to marry him by handing him his grandmother's engagement ring. She asks if he's asking to avoid a scandal or so they can be a family. He wonders if it's bad if he says both. She hugs him. He asks her not to wear it until he can tell the girls.

Will, Scarlett and Layla have a photo shoot. Will and Layla do great but Scarlett is stiff, unsmiling, and apparently not interested in being photographed looking super hot. Brent tells Will the label wants him to record Gunnar's song. He says he needs to ask permission first.

Deacon goes to see his old lawyer comes to apologize for being rude and thank her her help. And pay her. She won't take his money and asks for a dinner date instead.

A housekeeper claimed his alibi was fake and heard the couple talking, Virginia saying she was leaving. The housekeeper later recanted and died a short time later. Tandy is disappointed but doesn't seem surprised.

Rayna visits Juliette and says she has to cancel the tour. She says insurance will cover it. Juliette notes that insurance won't cover promoting her new album and she doesn't have a near death tragedy to boost record sales like Rayna. Rayna apologizes but says she has to be there for her family and that Juliette will figure it out.

Zoey stands in a church and sings. She is of course talented. Scarlett catches her and is impressed. They reminisce about singing in the church choir at Zoey's father's church. Glen says her fans want sparkle and flash and everything else she's been peddling the last few years. He notes if they do all new stuff she'll need to play secondary markets and smaller venues. She does not like this but he says she's got no chance of selling out arenas if she doesn't cater to the young fans who got her there. She appears to acquiesce.

Lamar speaks lovingly about his wife's love of music at the Symphony gala and has the crowd toast Virginia Wyatt.

She says it was also hard for her when her husband died and she never again felt like the older version of herself. He notes he doesn't know the first thing about being a father.

Rayna shows up at Juliette's to collect Maddie who is now sleeping. Juliette notes that Rayna does need to be home with family after all. She lets Rayna know she knows about Deacon but says she won't say anything. She says Maddie clearly wants to talk about it and Rayna should too since at some point life is not about what you want anymore and you gotta do what you gotta do. Which clearly gives Juliette her own idea.

The next day Rayna talks to Maddie about her courtship with Deacon and seems to thaw the ice between them. They talk about a song he wrote for her. Says she knows it's hard but she's her your momma and here for her. She says they should not push each other away. They both say I love you. Rayna leaves the room to take care of Daphne and Deacon calls her. Maddie picks up and he says he was caling to see how she was doing. Other than grounded she says she's okay. He notes a lot of people were worried about her and asks her not to run off again. She says she won't and they hang up and she calls him "dad" out loud.

Will and Gunnar meet about the song and Gunnar turns him down but says he can have any other song of mine. Will protests that it will be a hit and Gunnar says that's why he has to keep it for himself. He knows he may never get half as far as Will but wants to try.
