- Three children suffer cruel fates while an uncaring world watches their plight.
- "Three Children" is separated into three individual long takes, each following the tragedy of one child in a unique location. Mixing the style of "Code Unknown" (2000) and the childhood tragedy of "Apaches" (1977), "Three Children" seeks to emulate the perspective of an uncaring world watching the plight of its children.
The first segment follows David, as he plays on a playground with other children and their parents. His parents are conspicuously absent and the other parents pay no mind when an unknown white van pulls up and idles on the street near the playground. David's friends leave him alone on his section of the playground and, when the other parents are distracted by an accident on the playground, David is abducted off-screen.
The second segment follows Sally and starts with an image of a dead dog. The camera slowly reveals more information about the scene, showing a playground ball, overturned bike, and other elements, until eventually revealing that Sally has been hit by a car on the street before the segment even began. Her grieving parents rush out of the house to mourn her.
The third segment follows James while his younger brother runs a bath and brushes his teeth in the bathroom. James attempts to wake up his father, who has fallen asleep while watching television. He goes to get a drink of water, but finds the pitcher empty, so he finds a bottle on an unknown substance. His father wakes up in time and reproaches him for attempting to drink the toxic substance. However, unknown to them, James' brother has fallen into the bathtub and drowned while they were preoccupied.
