Just remember folks. When all this was happening they were partying in Downing Street.
The lockdown is happening and Boris Johnson and other cabinet ministers get to have their Churchillian or Tony Blair moment. Standing at the lectern, live on television and taking question from the press. All shown live on television.
As the second episode shows. The doctors and nurses working around the clock. Staying away from their families in order not to infect them. Caring for those patients who had Covid. Watching their colleagues dying of Covid.
Then there was the hospital bureaucracy. In one sense they were only following order from the government. Sending patients back to care homes who then infected others.
As a drama I think Breathtaking hits all the beats. It's not caustic enough as a polemic against the Tory government's handling of the disaster.
