Reggie's math teacher discusses the number of vertices, edges, and faces you get when you cut a sphere. However, spheres in our universe have no vertices, edges, or faces. He's apparently describing Euler's invariant for polyhedra, perhaps the actor couldn't pronounce "polyhedra" so they replaced it with a geometric object ("sphere") he could pronounce.

During the piece that Reggie has composed for the quartet near the beginning of the movie, you can see Violins and Violas as well as the Piano and Cello. Eleanor also remarks on how beautiful the Violas and Violins sound together, but when they perform the piece, you can only hear the Cello and Piano.
