Tom Hanks and Felicity Jones in Inferno (2016)

Goofs

Inferno

Edit

Continuity

(at around 17 mins) When Langdon opens Ignazio's e-mail, the apostrophe in "they're" is inverted (in fact, it is not an apostrophe but an okina), but when several close-ups are shown in the next shots (obviously not filmed off the same screen or any screen at all), the apostrophe is correct.
(at around 21 mins) In Dr. Brooks' apartment as Langdon is attempting to open the Bio-tube with thumbprint recognition, he is seen holding the tube with his right hand until a close-up of only his thumb and the tube wherein it is being held in his left hand. The subsequent wider angle shots show the tube being held and opening in his right hand.
(at around 39 mins) After Sienna changes her clothes in her apartment, it can be seen that she's wearing 3" wedge heels as she and Langdon leave. As they are chased through Boboli Gardens, there are a few moments on screen where Sienna is wearing flats. After they enter the museum, she's back in the 3" wedges again.
(at around 10 mins) The female Carabinieri shoots the intern and continues down the hallway, still shooting. Sienna Brooks closes and locks the door to Langdon's room and three protrusions appear on their side of the door, near the handle, where bullets hit it. But when the Carabinieri is shown from her side, trying to force the door open, there are no indentations on it corresponding to the shots she fired.

Factual errors

(at around 1h 4 mins) When Langdon and Sienna remove the death mask from the baptismal, Sienna states that it is covered in "Acrylic Gesso" which she claims is a water soluble paint. She then proceeds to wipe the gesso away with a rag thus revealing the next clue. Since the gesso is obviously dry, as they both handle the mask without any residue sticking to their hands, it is impossible to simply wipe the gesso away with a rag, given the fact that acrylic gesso is waterproof once dry, forming a plastic like layer, very much like acrylic house paint.
(at around 15 mins) Robert Langdon, a Harvard University professor of history of art, says that he saw the beaked plague doctor's mask in a vision and then explains that "It's the kind that medieval doctors wore during the Black Death.". But the beaked plague doctor's mask is from the 17th century, 300 years after the outbreak of the Black Death and after the Middle Ages ended.

Incorrectly regarded as goofs

(at around 42 mins) Brooks states that Langdon was 'intubated' so all the medication he received at the hospital was administered intravenously. Intubation is the insertion of a breathing/medication tube through a person's trachea, and has nothing to do with an IV.

However, when someone is intubated, they cannot take any medication orally.

Revealing mistakes

(at around 2 mins) Obvious (and beardless) double for Zobrist in the opening scene of him running through the streets.
(at around 26 mins) When Sienna searches for information about Zobrist, the search results include information of what other people have searched for. Five names are shown, but the photos above two female names are of men, and the photo above one male name is female.

Audio/visual unsynchronised

(at around 1h 9 mins) The train horn's sound is American, not European.

Errors in geography

(at around 30 mins) Langdon and Sienna take a car from Sienna's apartment to get to Palazzo Vecchio, "near the Giardini Boboli". However the location of Sienna's apartment overlooks Via del Sole, near Palazzo Strozzi, and is just a 7 minute walk from the Palazzo Vecchio, even closer than the Giardini Boboli! It would take just as long if not longer to take a car in the tight streets of Florence's historic center, which is not conducive to driving automobiles. In addition, after leaving her apartment the next scenes show them driving down Via Machiavelli in a completely different part of the city, across the Arno river.
(at around 1h 35 mins) When the WHO jet lands in Istanbul, the tail ID is seen to be LY-ZAB, which is an Lithuania aircraft tail ID. The WHO is Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Thus, it's unlikely they would be flying a Lithuanian jet; it more likely would be a Swiss jet.
(at around 38 mins) Just before the drone searches for Langdon and Sienna outside Boboli Gardens, the time displayed on the movie screen is 8:42 a.m. A moment later, the drone's monitor screen indicates a UTC time of 08:43. However, in June, during daylight saving time, Florence, Italy is two hours ahead of UTC, so the drone clock should have read 06:43.

Plot holes

(at around 49 mins) With an item as valuable as Dante Alighieri's death mark, it is hard to fathom why the case was not alarmed.
(at around 1h 35 mins) While flying to Istanbul, Elizabeth Sinskey calculates that within a few days, 95% of the world population will be infected. But given that they don't know anything about the virus yet nor how it will be released, she cannot make that calculation.
(at around 27 mins) Zobrist says the bacteria doubles every minute, and the cup will be full at midnight. So it is half-full at 11:59, and the world is on the brink of destruction. His solution is a virus that would cull half the world's population. The problem is that this "solution" only turns back the clock 1 minute - not much of a savings. Sienna near the end of the film (at around 1h 45 mins) fails to recognize this herself, stating that the virus will permanently solve mankind's population problem.

Character error

(at around 38 mins) When Bouchard speaks French, he refers to the World Health Organization in English as "WHO". A Frenchman would always refer to it as OMS (Organisation mondiale de la santé).
(at around 27 mins) Zobrist said the Earth will reach a population of 32 billion in 40 years, when, in fact, at the current rate of growth, it will take 112.7 years to reach that number. Source: United Nations.
(at around 37 mins) When Langdon and Sienna are escaping the Carabinieri and W.H.O, Langdon props up a bike to scale a wall. Right next to said bike was a dumpster, taller than the bike and more suited to get over the wall with.
