The theft of a baby
Tweekums24 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After the previous story's trip to Scotland the team are back in London. In the opening scene we see a pair of policemen sitting in a car while watching a Turkish café; one of them gets out just before gunman on a motorbike pulls up and shoots his partner. The next thing we see is the discovery of a woman's body in a suitcase. During the postmortem Nikki makes a startling discovery; the dead woman had had a baby cut from her; a baby who is quite possibly still alive. She had also been smuggling drugs. After the discover the woman's identity they go to her home and discover that she may be linked to the Turk who was being watched in the opening scene; the surviving officer is certainly determined to connect the man with the murder; perhaps a little too determined; Jack certainly things so.

This was another good story; throughout the opening episode I was conflicted about DI Brooke's trustworthiness. Sean Gallagher put in a solid performance in the role. The other main suspect, Bekir Humadi was a thoroughly unlikeable character; Akin Gazi did a fine job making this potentially over the top villain believable. As is usually the case there were plenty of likely suspects but when we learn what really happened to the woman it still came as a surprise… at least it did for me. As well as a decent mystery there were plenty of tense moments; not all of which had happy outcomes. Overall this was another good story in the long running series.

Gripping, with some big characters.
Sleepin_Dragon26 October 2018
Undertone concludes with a gripping, twisted episode, which is equally as dramatic and macabre as the first.

One gripe, the last two parter had a corrupt officer, and we get more of the same here again, they should have split the transmission date possibly, a little guilty of over egging the pudding as it were.

Minor gripe done, this was a fantastic episode, so much packed in, great dialogue, great characters, and some hugely memorable scenes, one in particular where Jack uses his cage fighting skills to good use.

David Caves hit the ground running from the very first, he's terrific here, and his character hasn't veered off, he's still challenging, confrontational, and not afraid to say what he thinks. Some truly great guest performances here, Shaun Gallagher and Ruth Gemmell are terrific, but the stand out for me again is Akin Gazi, who makes Bekir so utterly loathsome, yet powerful and believable as a character, he was terrific.

Another cracking episode from a terrific series. 9/10

No Winners in This game
Hitchcoc28 April 2019
As the investigation continues in the quest for the missing drugs, the police detective begins massive coverups. We have an unbalanced wife who is clinging to the baby. Soon all paths begin to cross. What happened to the young mother? How are the Turkish men involved. There are scenes of great violence and the quick assassination of anyone who gets in the way. This is quite an intense effort. The series continues at a high level. Jack is becoming more and more of a positive factor, warts and all.
