The screenplay for Hangman's Noose was based on both a screenplay written in 1995 called "Dagger: Jagged Edge" and its 1998 comic book sequel "Dagger: Night of Revelations" Much of the artwork that appears in the beginning credits was taken from the comic book.
This film and Solomon's Requiem (2004) were the only feature films shot by Martinez on 16mm film. Hangman's Noose was shot on Kodak black and white negative.
An entire subplot was written involving a street kid that was unofficially adopted by Vincent Tamblyn (Al Burgo ) and grooming him as a successor. One scene was even filmed with the actor portraying the kid, but after the actor disappeared, the subplot was scrapped entirely.
In 2021, Alberto Martinez announced a graphic novel, Clock People, a parody of the Watchmen graphic novel by Alan Moore . The Dagger will be one of the main characters, and the story will take place years after this film, despite being a parody. It was also announced that Night Of Revelations, the comic that was partly adapted into Hangman's Noose, will be included as an ashcan with updated artwork.
