- Calder Michaels replaces Auggie as interim DPD head. Augie learns Calder is the new mole for Henry. Calder traced money from the Chens to a terrorist in Vienna; Annie is sent there to gather information. Joan and Arthur get back together.
- Henry's protégé Calder Michaels takes over from Augie as Dometisc protection Division chief and Annie's handler. While Augie risks his neck to keep in touch and counsel Annie, she accepts trying working alone. She's sent to Vienna, resuming her Smithsonian art expert cover to get to elusive arms dealer Tarel Birkin. Teo Braga however is hell-bent to eliminate him to prevent any weapons being sold to the Colombian terrorists, already financed through the Chen couple, a trail which Calder has tracked down.—KGF Vissers
- Back in the elevator from the beginning of the season. Annie gets off the phone with Auggie, the doors to the elevator open and she and Calder Michaels face each other down with guns drawn. He fires first, she goes down. He radios someone to report that "Operative Walker is dead."
It's Henry Wilcox.
Six Weeks Earlier
Annie wakes up to hear Auggie coming home. He just had drinks with Amy Jacobs, a legislative director for Senator Pierson who used to work in the DPD. He was looking into Calder. Amy told him that Pierson has a tight relationship with Henry Wilcox and they talked two days ago about Calder. They think Calder is Henry's new mole.
At Langley the next day, Calder Michaels addresses the troops, promising he's getting rid of red tape for vertical communication that will push them out of their comfort zone. He's planning to meet with everyone one on one to "evaluate your job efficiency." He promises egos will be bruised.
"Let's be smarter and more aggressive than our enemies," he says.
Later, he tells Auggie that he got outplayed on the Chens. Auggie is planning to analyze Wendy's SIM card, but Calder already did it and found a wire transfer to a Greek arms dealer named Dion Stavros. He takes full credit for finding it even though Annie got the card.
Two months ago Stavros escaped from the Spanish police and now he's in Vienna. Calder is sending Annie to Vienna with a new cover as an importer-exporter that plays off her Smithsonian cover.
When CNI (Spanish intelligence) raided Stavros' apartment, they confiscated his art collection. It was reported that it was stolen from lock-up, but in fact CNI is getting it to Annie to use to approach Stavros.
Calder tells them that he's Annie's new handler because they're having a sexual relationship and it's not safe. He also tells them not to communicate on this mission because it could lead to "emotional decisions." Annie's flight leaves in three hours.
In the parking lot, Annie is inclined to go silent for the time being so that Calder will trust them. Auggie worries it's a trap.
In Vienna, Annie spends the day shopping to sell her high end cover. Calder calls. He left her a Faberge egg that belongs to Stavros that he wants her to use to approach him at the opera tonight.
Annie is worried she's not comfortable with her cover yet, but Calder says they have intel that Stavros has missiles he has to move quickly, so they're moving up the timeline.
Auggie visits his old friend Tyler at the State Department, hoping for more background on Stavros. He learns he was a CIA asset until '09 and was feeding them intel on the uprising in Niger. He puts the info on a flash drive.
Arthur and Joan meet for lunch. She tells him about the Pierson-Wilcox link. Arthur wants to find a way to learn what Henry's doing before he does it.
Auggie goes for a walk in the woods, up to something. He calls Annie and tells her that Stavros was Henry's asset. Annie's confident she can handle things.
At Langley, Calder sees Auggie return and wonders where he's been. He mentions a long range biometric project named Hummingbird that Auggie wanted to work on. It didn't get approved because DST was working on something similar. Calder approves it, then tells Auggie if he finds out he's calling Annie they'll have some real problems.
In Vienna, Annie goes to the opera. She looks up info on the woman Stavros is with and uses it as an excuse to approach them. She shows off her knowledge of opera and impresses him. He asks her to go to another next week, trying to convince her to stay in town. She says it depends on her business.
Back in their seats, Stavros gets the egg she left for him.
After the opera, Stavros and Annie sniff each other out. He thinks she's Interpol or CNI. She lets on she has all his stuff. He offers $300,000, but she asks $500K and tells him to meet tomorrow.
Calder calls her to check in. He likes the way the mission is going, but warns her he'll transfer Auggie out of the DPD if they talk again.
The next day, Annie waits for Stavros under a bridge. He shows up with muscle and a briefcase full of cash. She calls for the truck.
Annie suggests they work together, that she move things for him without detection. In response, his muscle pulls a gun. He looked into Annie and found her Smithsonian history, but is worried that no one he knows has heard of her as an importer-exporter.
She stares down the gun and tells him one of his paintings, worth $500K, isn't in the truck and he'll never get it if he kills her.
He gives her 24 hours to find a buyer for his missile launchers or he'll kill her.
Annie calls Calder, who says he knows an agent who can buy the launchers, Tarel Birkin.
At work, Auggie gets a text that says "I hear the woods are nice this time of day," then a request for info on Birkin. Auggie steps out to call Annie. He tells her that Tarel is very inexperienced. He suggests she get out Vienna. Annie decides to go ahead with the op.
Back at Langley, Auggie goes to Calder and tells her he wants in on the mission, revealing he spoke to Annie against orders. He loudly says that Calder is putting her life at risk.
In Vienna, Tarel arrives. Annie quizzes him on his cover as a Kurdish terrorist. He flubs a couple answers and Annie tells him her 24 hours are up, she's aborting the mission.
Annie goes outside to hail a cab and sees a goon coming at her with a gun. She runs through the streets of Vienna with him on her heels. He corners her in an alley, but she's able to kick his gun away. She fights with him, but he's much bigger and stronger and gets the upper hand. He throws her to the ground.
A man shows up and apologizes for being late. It's Teo Braga. Annie rolls with it and tells the goon to tell his boss to be a little less paranoid, the buyer is here. Auggie called Teo.
Back in the hotel room, Teo says he was "nearby" when Auggie called.
Annie meets with Stavros, who is impressed she was able to set him up with Teo, the Puma. She asks for his business going forward. He promises her the number of a friend in Africa when they're done.
Teo joins them. After Teo hands over his payment to Stavros, he takes out a gun and shoots Stavros and his goon dead. Teo says he couldn't let Stavros sell weapons to the ALC. He takes out his cell phone and smashes it, then leaves.
Back at Langley, Annie leaves Teo out of her story to Calder. She says Stavros' goons took her to the apartment and she killed them in self defense. She's surprised to learn there were only 20 missile launchers, not 25. Calder informs her he's keeping her in her cover, she'll be moving in to a new apartment.
Later, at Auggie's, she's not sure if it was a trap or not. Auggie thinks Henry is testing them.
Annie gets a text from Henry, who knows she was in Vienna at the opera at "La Traviata," which, he informs her pointedly, translates to "the woman who strayed."
He tells her Seth Newman was found dead (which she knows because she killed him) and the FBI is on it. Henry seems to think she did it.
Henry walks away into the night. A woman in what looks like a brown wig follows him.
