The villain of the story doesn't look at all evil
A three-part offering whose special feature is the many glimpses of the sea caught from all angles and in several different moods. Some will think that the sensational rescue of a woman and her young son (played by acrobats) from the top of a lighthouse by a rope lifted up to them from a ship and down which they climb, not without danger, is the feature of the offering. It would have been if the story had been stronger, but the incident, startling as it is, does not convince us and we do not naturally see it as the truth; it fails to be as effective as the trouble, effort and danger of the players, under better auspices, would have made it. The villain of the story doesn't look at all evil, quite the contrary, and the story's heroine is not taken by a very natural actress. The photography is perfect, but the scenes are hand-tinted and this is not at all times fortunate. Only fair as an offering. - The Moving Picture World, November 15, 1913
