Quirky dark comedy
kathmiddleton2 March 2024
I liked this! Offbeat quirky humour, lots of plot twists, fun modern characters. Would recommend as a fun watch, would watch a second season, but I don't think I'd rewatch it - so I gave it a 7/10. Especially enjoyed the grandma and auntie, totally bonkers and a really good juxtaposition to Elliot's normal world. If I had to name any negatives, I guess because it's quirky and cartoonish I didn't find myself emotionally invested in the characters, but I did enjoy them. And I was invested in the plot enough to want to know the resolution! A few times I laughed out loud hard and had to rewind to enjoy a line again. Solid comedy.

Don't know why the poor reviews. Accept it for what it is.

It British so has a particular style and sense of humour and it's probably not for you if you enjoy more mainstream US type of style and humour. However, accept it for what it is and I think you'll buoy.

There are oddball characters, like the grandmother and the pet grooming lady - he hair style in one episode is a visual treat!

It also has great visual style. It's lovely and quirky and makes Liverpool look great. Yes the lead is gay, and yes the cast is diverse, but get over it, keep an open mind and have fun watching it. It has moments of the absurd but so does something like "Extraordinary" and that gets higher ratings. I think there's a teeny bit of homophobia and racism in some of the reviewers which is clouding their judgement.

It's light, fun, quirky. Enjoy!

Far better than I expected
MediaA284 March 2024
I didn't expect much going into this - I often find Prime Video series to be predictable and dull - but I fancied a light, fun murder-mystery as a change from the more serious, gritty ones which can get quite tedious sometimes... so I gave it a try.

Within the first episode, my curiosity was piqued and I was ready to binge the whole thing. There are laugh-out-loud moments aplenty but I also felt the show handled the more serious scenes well which helped to propel the mystery within the show as well as build the audience's empathy and investment in the characters.

Anyone who loves plot twists will have a ball with this series - each new clue leads to further questions, with the strange events & twists occurring throughout the show right up until the very end.

Sadly I expect Prime will not commission a second season as they often don't commit to these shows unless they go viral. But I really hope I'm wrong and they release a second installment as I think the wonderful characters and playful-yet-punchy writing has a lot of potential.

I strongly recommend this to anyone looking for a light-hearted mystery series with lots of comedy and heartfelt moments thrown in.

A complete and utter mess. Don't waste your time.
HYP0GRAM19 March 2024
It's a complete and utter mess, following two deeply unlikeable leads who are seemingly trying to be more obnoxious than one another and both succeeding.

Most of the series is spent with the main characters shouting endlessly dull exposition at one another, to explain away unnecessary plot twists, which all serve as a pointless vehicle for quirkiness so forced that it's relentlessly disingenuous and subsequently annoying.

The team clearly thought they were making the next Utopia, even down to the heavy-handed attempt to imitate the soundtrack. They very much were not.

What a criminal waste of Penelope Wilton and Peter Serafinowicz's talents. Definitely one to avoid, lest you get duped into thinking it might actually go somewhere other than grinding to a severely unsatisfying and predictable conclusion.

Unlike anything I've EVER seen

This show captivated my family and I from the start. It's bright, colorful, fun, suspenseful, young, hip, and binge-able as hell. I got lost in the story and attached to the characters from the start. It's written in a way that's serious but silly at the same time. I can't think of any other show that's done a murder-mystery in this way. As much I was on the edge of my seat, that suspense was cut by the most hilarious, out of pocket jokes and moments I never saw coming. I hope so badly there is a second season to this! I NEED to know what happens next. The curveballs at the end threw me!! Sharing Dead Hot with all of my friends who are equally as hooked and antsy for more!!

Irritating to the max
mbthedude5 March 2024
Thought this might be a fun new series to try seeing as it was set in Liverpool, a place I lived for a few years in the 00s.

Couldn't last more than 15 minutes, the 2 main characters are 1 dimensional and irritating this may appeal to teenagers wondering about a first crush but there was zero depth to the story line, apart from sharing a dead brother / boyfriend and it seems an apartment she couldn't be bothered listening to him gushing about a first date either that or the character suffers from a zero second attention span.

15 minutes in and I knew I was wasting my time and wouldn't be coming back simply couldn't take any more.

Avoid.

Superb!

Really enjoyed this quirky series aimed at the younger generation. So many twists and turns. Great script and look to the series. Witty, surprising, wild. Excellent cast, and strong on diversity. Would watch this a second time and hope they make a second season. The best series I've seen on Amazon Prime in a long time. Different tone and colour palette. Oddball, offbeat characters who nevertheless felt real and lived-in. Perfect for teenagers but also older folks. It's great that young voices are now being heard via the streaming services as it is imperative that we change the discourse to appeal to a new generation.

Hilarious, Suspenseful, Unique
ewbcah12 March 2024
You've never seen anything like it. It's silly and suspense and wild -- and the twists will make your jaw drop. The cast is great. It's funny to see someone like Penelope Wilton who you know from Downton Abbey diving head first into the material. Peter Serafinowicz is another legend in this -- but it's the new young cast that shines.

It is both a comedy and a mystery. Dead Hot is also very modern. Set in edgy Liverpool, it deals with dating apps and psychics and crazy workouts and nutty nightclubs. This is not for the prudish or traditional. The characters are often selfish and weird and yet that makes them more lovable.

Highly recommended.

FANTASTIC!
Marklash23 March 2024
"Dead Hot" is a captivating TV show that seamlessly blends drama, thriller, and comedy into a thrilling experience. One of its standout features is the abundance of twists and turns, keeping viewers on the edge of their seats throughout. The stellar cast delivers outstanding performances, drawing viewers into the world of the show from the very beginning. Personally, I found myself completely hooked, unable to look away as the story unfolded. "Dead Hot" is truly unlike anything I've ever seen before, and it quickly sucked me into its intriguing world.

I kinda didn't want it to end as I want to see more of the cast and the dramas... Will there be a season 2..

Constantly entertaining murder mystery dark comedy
dunnep-9130616 March 2024
What a gem! Like all classic British tv comedy shows it comes in at 6 episodes, each of which gallops along at pace. The two leads are excellent, combining empathy, comedy but with a perfect underlying stench of suspicion. Supporting cast are similarly up to par, memorable and funny. Peter Serafinowicz in particular!

Writing and dialogue was a dream, never a dull moment, with little easter eggs packed into everything. The show overall felt tight, no wasted scenes, shots, dialogue or characters. The amount of detail that Aunt Bonnie's equastrian kink was unbelievable for such a side plot.

As a side note, I'm confused by the low overall rating from silent reviewers...

Overall unique characters, fast paced and satisfying resolution!

At last: an enjoyable, quirky LGBT comedy murder mystery!
shawnmulligan23 April 2024
I had reservations about the show when I first saw ads for it (seemed kind of limited and weirdly fast-paced at first), but it quickly evened out to a quirky and deeply enjoyable murder mystery series.

As a fan of the genre, you don't see a lot of good LGBT-centered mystery series, so I was happy to finally find one that was so well-crafted. I definitely liked Elliott more than Jess who got to be rather grating at times in scenes on her own, but they had a great dynamic. And the recurring/side characters were well-handled as well.

The plot was a bit hard to follow sometimes, but twists and turns are to be expected in a thriller show like this. A few too many flashbacks for my taste, though.

Hope there is a second season! I'd really like to see more of these characters.
