The cartoon was shot for five months and, due to the fact that many animators worked on enthusiasm alone, it cost only 300 Soviet rubles.
In November 1988, the 60th anniversary of Mickey Mouse was celebrated. At the same time, for the first time, the Soviet Union was visited by a delegation of the Disney company, led by Roy Disney. Soviet animators presented Roy with the cartoon "Marathon" as a gift to Mickey Mouse.
