Watch it to know its beauty!
MuviFan7312 December 2023
Tone, Script & Story: There are more than one stories here running in parallel, mainly an old age man, an old age women and a tailor. The tailor's story includes a women, a costume contractor, a helper who helps him in lodging and a mafia that rents him home. All these stories mostly at some time clash with other.

One of the things that caught my attention was how old age woman that were full of life clashes with old man and refers to him as madrasi. There's one of my friends who refers to one of my other friends as Bajaj. Although we are not old. I hope they read this review.

The words that I am pinning down for this movie are not enough to highlight its superiority. If I pen it down it would be a spoiler. It is terrific drama. You have to watch it to know its beauty.

Direction, Screenplay, Cinematography: Tailors residence, dhaba, rehearsal house, bus, old people residences, bar, etc are all captured well.

Music: Music is average that resonates well along with the movie. Acting: Acting too is top notch, be it Neena, Jackie, Rakhi or others.

Final Verdict: It came to my attention that very few people have rated it on IMDb which meant only few have watched it. Watch it guys you won't be disappointed.

A Heartfelt Slice of Life Cinema
pathbreakingwriter8 December 2023
Directed by Vijay Maurya, Mast Mein Rehne Ka is much more than what the trailers offer. Right from the first scene you can see stellar performance by Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta. However, I have to mention that the real stars of the movie are Abhishek Chauhan as Nanhe and Monica Panwar as Rawas/Rani. As their lives crisscross situations happen which drives the human struggle story forward. All the supporting chracters do a fine job. The city of Mumbai is also a character which we see through the lens of Nagaraj Ashokan Rathinam. From bylanes of Charni Road to Dongri his lens capture every detail that makes Mumbai Mumbai. Editing by Antara Lahiri is crisp. This two hour movie is a great watch for those who want to enjoy good cinema which you can reflect on long after the end credits roll. I recommend it.

A delicious slice of life story.
chand-suhas17 December 2023
It's a tale of four individuals. Kamath (Jackie Shroff) and Prakash Kaur Handa (Neena Gupta), two lonely widower. Madhosh Gupta aka Nanhe (Abhishek Chauhan), a poor ladies tailor in debt and Rawas (Monika Pawar). Circumstances lead Nanhe to be jobless and in dire need of money to re-start his tailoring job. He resorts to robbing houses of lonely elderly and Kamath, Prakash Kaur are among his victims. How Kamath and Prakash Kaur get to know each other to re-want to live their lives and how difficult the lives of Nanhe and Rawas are, inspite of them wanting to live their lives the way they dream of, forms rest of the story.

Mumbai is not just a city of dreams but a city full of stories. That is what resonates with me personally, despite my brief visits to the city. The beauty of this film is it is the city that brings these four characters alive on screen. Be it their insecurities, their loneliness, their dishonesty, their struggle to even their greed, Mumbai is what shapes them as human beings. From the grumpy lonely widower wanting to die and his equally grumpy lonely widower who wants to live. Each of these characters are meant to be with each other, not just to complete each other but that is what life intends for them. The screenplay and ofcourse the performances held me till the end, including Rakhi Sawant as Bilkis.

Having said that, Vijay Maurya deserves full credit for his direction and even for co-writing this with Payal Arora. There is no deviation from these four characters as their life unfolds. Building these characters as they chose to open up with each other. One couple has seen life, lived it too whereas the other is now seeing life. The way they perceive life, even with their day to day activities, there is this warmth these moments create which lasted long after the film ended. Ofcourse I yearned for the happy endings, that is what one does when they root for the characters but taking this journey through their lives itself was worth it. For me, this easily ranks among the best films of 2023.

Lacked in Story but Concepts shown are good
shubhangiaggarwal-7788718 January 2024
The theme of loneliness in old age is seldom explored in Bollywood or other cinematic productions. Despite being a slow-paced film, this particular movie captured my interest. However, I found the ending to be less satisfying, especially considering the strong start and some unresolved elements, such as the lessons on attachment. The film effectively drew a parallel between the life of a young, unfortunate individual and that of an old, middle-class man, offering a unique perspective. While the portrayal of real-life problems and social issues was commendable, the narrative itself lacked a certain depth. Nevertheless, it serves as a worthwhile watch, particularly for those moments when you need a one-time emotional boost.

Future beckoning
P4B10 December 2023
Many viewers can see their future in this movie, not only that but a way out to manage loneliness, and callousness of administration and society towards aging population. This movie throws pertinent questions on population, how do we ensure that our after retir d life is respectable, happy and safe? How can one life a life of purpose till end without too much dependence on kith and kin? Beautiful rendition and screenplay.

Acting, story and dialogue , everything caught the heart. It was not monotonous , run of the mill story but very very innovative and creatively made. Lot of takeaways too, not to give up on lif ena dlive the life life's way, no matter what , to just count a few takeaways.

Too good to miss!!!
shashank_150125 January 2024
These days we rarely get a film that one can watch anywhere, anytime & with anyone. This movie falls in that category.

Vijay Maurya's first mainstream movie brings together an unlikely combo of Jackie Shroff & Neena Gupta in this heartwarming drama. It revolves around four characters, two aged widowers, a broke ladies tailor & a street girl living in a metro city and their paths crossing by a series of unfortunate events.

Mast mein Rehne Ka depicts how loneliness at old age can encourage you to do things that you might prejudice otherwise & to what extremes one can go in-order to survive in this world. It can be so liberating and raw, so beautiful & sad all at the same time.

Sweet & Simple, a must watch!!!

The film, while not reaching the pinnacle of perfection, unfolds a narrative woven with intricacies that resonate with the viewer long after the credits roll. Delving into its flaws, one cannot help but recognize the redeeming quality that lies within - a solid life lesson that stands as the cornerstone of the film's enduring appeal.

Undoubtedly, the film introduces itself with a set of imperfections. From pacing issues to narrative gaps, the flaws are apparent. However, it is precisely within these imperfections that the film finds its unique charm. Makes the unbearable reality - Watchable...& Beautiful.
shahchirag-ca10 December 2023
The director has taken themes that people do not want to not talk about and transformed these realities into something beautiful and bearable. Aging, loneliness, poverty, frustration, violence are all aspects of our lives that we knowingly ignore as they are too difficult to deal with in the Now of our zombie mode. The director put these into a vessel of hope, kindness and beauty so that the viewer can put down her guard and look into their own mirror without disgust or disdain. Loved each character, but my favorite were Jackie and Monica Panwar. Both are caterpillars in transformation. Great cinema. Watch it.

Jaggu and Neena rock the show!!
nadkarnisumeet18 December 2023
Mast Mein Rehne Ka review :

A quiet release on Amazon Prime in midst of the ongoing Animal shor-sharaaba; Mast Mein Rehne Ka turns out to be a breezy feel good fare with Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta striking a sweet senior citizen friendship, which you would root and hoot...

In fact, Jaggu dada is in top form (as usual) playing the Karwari Kamath to perfection. Neena Gupta, as the boisterous Punjaban cussing in every sentence and calling Jaggu "Madrasi" is also first rate. The angst and emotional pain of neglected senior citizens is effectively explored through their platonic relationship.

There is a parallel love track between a petty chor (Abhishek Chauhan) and street hooker (Monika, impressive) surviving in the big bad Mumbai. Writer- actor turned director Vijay Maurya does quite well for his first full fledged movie. Mast Mein Rehne Ka easily fits in the "Can See" category. Make it your Sunday matinee!!

Regards, Sumeet Nadkarni.

A good movie to watch with your partner
immumd30 December 2023
Mast Me Rehne Ka" brings a refreshing sight with Jackie Shroff's return to the screen, delivering a stellar performance alongside Neena Gupta. However, the film's pace lags a bit after the initial 40 minutes.

Monika Panwar steals the show with her remarkable appearance and dialogue delivery, leaving a lasting impression that makes her almost unrecognizable. On the other hand, Abhishek Chauhan's talents, witnessed in ASUR and Cubicle, feel underutilized despite his evident potential.

The movie's central focus on the lives of senior citizens, grappling with the aftermath of losing a spouse, provides a poignant narrative. Additionally, the subplot involving a man embarking on a journey from his village to Mumbai for a fresh start adds depth to the storyline.

In terms of acting, the ensemble cast earns a commendable 7 stars, with special mentions for Jackie, Neena, and Monika. While the story holds merit, the pacing issue contributes to a slightly lower rating of 6.5 stars. However, the dialogue delivery, especially by Monika, elevates the overall experience, earning it a 7.5-star rating.

For a heartfelt portrayal of senior citizens' lives and a nuanced exploration of new beginnings, "Mast Me Rehne Ka" earns a solid overall rating of 7 stars. ⭐✨

Also, this movie has some slang language which is not appropriate for kids.

Decent - could have been better
abhijitshukla-1739220 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This is perhaps Jackie Shroff's best work in a career that spans 4 decades. Sadly the movie as a vehicle does not live up to it.

There are two storylines - on that of an elderly middle class couple trying to find love in twilight of life. Another of a poor couple - a poor taylor/burglar and a street-beggar/prostitute trying to find human dignity. The two storylines nearly intersect and characters go through the graph predictably. There in lies the problem. A lot of scenes are so artificial that the actors are forced to overact.

Jackie is truly superb. Nina Gupta does what she does routinely - play her character with authenticity.

Abhishek Chauhan was much better in Main Monica. Here he is monotonous through the movie. Monica Panwar is the most out of depth among all. She cannot pull off a street - beggar with authenticity (street-smart or not). Faisal Malik just does brings his Panchayat character from Phulera to Mumbai. Nothing else.

How many times have we seen hero believe his lover left him and flew away only to find out that she did not after losing any hope of ever seeing her? (Chalte Chalte, Heyy Baby, etc.) When we see that happen with Jackie and Nina, we know that the story was just put together in a hurry - almost as an afterthought.

A Heartwarming Tale of Unexpected Friendships and Rediscovery
raj-aero-iitb9 December 2023
In the heart of a bustling city, where routine defines the lives of many, "Mast Mein Rehne Ka" introduces us to Kamath, a lonely old widower whose life takes an unexpected turn after a robbery disrupts his monotonous existence. The film, directed by [Director's Name], embarks on a delightful journey of friendship, rediscovery, and the transformative power of human connections.

The story begins with Kamath's tranquil yet solitary life, marked by predictable routines that provide a sense of comfort. However, a robbery shatters this routine, leaving Kamath unconscious and drawing the attention of the local police, who express concern about his isolated lifestyle. This incident becomes the catalyst for Kamath's quest for change, prompting him to venture outside his comfort zone and befriend strangers.

As Kamath awkwardly navigates the realm of newfound friendships, his path crosses with Mrs. Handa, a vibrant Punjabi lady whose exuberance stands in stark contrast to Kamath's reserved demeanor. Curiosity leads Kamath to follow Mrs. Handa, and their lives become intertwined when her house falls victim to a robbery. The ensuing chaos lands them both in the police station, an unlikely setting for the blossoming of a heartwarming friendship.

The narrative takes a delightful turn as Kamath and Mrs. Handa forge a connection through endearing moments and shared adventures, including their unconventional escapades of stealing into other people's houses. The film beautifully captures the essence of their friendship, portraying the joy and liberation that arise when two seemingly disparate souls find companionship in each other.

However, fate introduces a twist to this heartwarming tale when Kamath and Mrs. Handa encounter the very thief who targeted them, throwing them into a stranger's house. As circumstances unfold, the lives of these previously unconnected individuals converge, driven by the whims of fate. The film skillfully weaves together humor, suspense, and emotion as Kamath and Mrs. Handa navigate this unexpected twist, showcasing the strength of their friendship in the face of adversity.

"Mast Mein Rehne Ka" is not merely a story of camaraderie; it is a poignant exploration of self-discovery and resilience. The characters, brilliantly portrayed by the talented cast, evolve as they confront challenges and embrace the uncertainties that life presents. The film invites the audience to reflect on the transformative power of friendship and the profound impact it can have on one's life.

The cinematography of the film captures the vibrancy of the city and the intimacy of the characters' interactions, enhancing the overall viewing experience. The soundtrack, composed with a keen understanding of the film's emotional beats, complements the narrative and reinforces its themes.

In conclusion, "Mast Mein Rehne Ka" stands out as a heartwarming and uplifting cinematic experience. With its well-crafted storyline, stellar performances, and a perfect blend of humor and emotion, the film reminds us that unexpected friendships can bloom even in the most unlikely circumstances. As Kamath and Mrs. Handa rediscover themselves through their adventures, the audience is treated to a tale that celebrates the beauty of human connections and the joy of embracing life's unpredictability.

Must watch
kishoredasmunshi8 December 2023
Its a must watch movie. Jackie Shroff in a break through role. There is an obvious chemistry with Neena Gupta. The movie deals with some of issues related to elderly in big cities, chief among them - loneliness and safety. One of facets of Big city life in India which should not neglected. It is a human interest subject. The treatment of the subject is good. The writers could have gone with a man as a protagonist but this a story of two - one man and another woman. The movie will hopefully make people aware of the issues apart from entertaining them with this heartwarming story. Jackie Shroff will have a second innings in Bollywood if he continues in this vein.

10/10!
anahitapandeyap22 December 2023
From the story to the actors to the setting to the clothes to the camera work and editing. This was a 10/10 watch.

Every scene made me emotional. As a person living in Europe, with Nani and family back in India by themselves this really hit home for me.

Please check up on your elders and anyone who seems to be alone. Life can seem so hectic and busy but one phone call alone can make such a difference. Nothing compares to the joy of hearing Nani talk, I could listen to her stories forever, even if she has told same story multiple times. Feeling immensely grateful for my privileged life!

Great great great movie!! Wish I could watch it for the first time again!

Boring watch, and yet another bollywood movie with anti muslim propaganda
sumayya131225 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
It is a slow movie with light comedy. The messages are clear from the start: firstly about loneliness and sudden spurt in life of two old people, the second one being the well known struggle of Mumbai. The movie keeps getting on about this with too much build up

Bollywood has continued to carry its anti muslim propaganda here by showing every "villain" or negative role person in the movie as a muslim.

1. The rude and nasty tailor master who fires Nanhe is muslim

2. The men who are involved with underworld to the extort money were shown as muslims

3. The man who runs away leaving Rani pregnant is Rafeek.

Mast Mein Rehne Ka: A 10/10 Masterpiece, Elevated by Abhishek Chauhan's Stellar Performance While "Mast Mein Rehne Ka" shines brightly thanks to its poignant story, captivating visuals, and veteran actors' performances, it's the undeniable talent of Abhishek Chauhan that truly elevates the film to a 10/10 masterpiece.

Chauhan breathes life into the complex character of Nanhe, a young man struggling with poverty and crime but possessing a kind heart and unwavering spirit. He navigates the film's emotional landscape with remarkable depth, showcasing a range of emotions that resonate deeply with the audience. His vulnerability as a struggling individual is juxtaposed beautifully with his protectiveness and affection towards Rani, creating a character that is both endearing and relatable.

Chauhan's performance is not simply impactful, it's transformative. He disappears into the role of Nanhe, making you forget you're watching an actor and instead believing you're witnessing a real person grappling with life's challenges. His every expression, every subtle movement, speaks volumes about Nanhe's internal struggles and hopes for a better future.

It's not just Chauhan's individual performance that stands out, but also his dynamic with his co-stars. He seamlessly shares the screen with the legendary Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta, holding his own and even elevating their performances with his natural talent. The trio's on-screen chemistry is palpable, making their interactions believable and emotionally engaging.

Abhishek Chauhan's performance in "Mast Mein Rehne Ka" is nothing short of a revelation. He injects the film with a raw and authentic energy that is both captivating and inspiring. His portrayal of Nanhe will stay with you long after the credits roll, leaving you in awe of his talent and eager to see him take on even more challenging roles in the future.

If you're looking for a film that will not only tug at your heartstrings but also introduce you to a remarkable new talent, then "Mast Mein Rehne Ka" is a must-watch. It's a testament to the power of storytelling and a showcase of a young actor destined for greatness.

Remember iconic movies Gardish & Angaar? Only Jackie Shroff can play actual common man so naturally. Jackie Shroff is most under rated artist of bolywood after Govinda!

Neena Gupta is Smita Patil of today's generation. Kudos!!

I hope and I wish Abhishek Chauhan gets same opportunities like SRK got after Raju Ban Gaya Gentlemen! He is superb in playing Nanhe Tailor!!

Faisal Malik as Baburam is awesome awesome

Never knew or thought that Rakhi Sawant can act so beautifully.. She's the surprise aliment of film

Monica as Rani awesome awesome.. so natural

All this happened because of genius Director Mr Vijay Maurya. Amazing talent 👏 🙌

Warning: Spoilers
A fresh perspective on life, love and loss.

Apart from the leading actors I think Abhishek Chauhan and Monika Panwar played such a convincing role, I loved her in Jamtara and even more so in this film. It has been able to potray the struggles that migrants go through when they are adapting to a metropolitan city.

The quaint portrayal of the parallel relationship between the old and young couple has elements of solitude and misery but Vijay Maurya has managed to make it hearth warming with a dash of humour.

I haven't felt the need to write a review of a film in a long time and this is definitely it!

In the era where non sense Bollywood makes crores, it is reliving to see such great performances by all the characters. It's funny yet has a deep strong message. Loved Abhishek C performance.

Each character was beautifully played by amazing star cast.

There is a strong learning and the movie portray each character in natural instaand. Hopefully, we will see such movies in the coming year after the idiotic movies in 2023. Director needs full accolade for making the movie real. Worth watching with the family.

Very strong message! Let the parents live the way that keeps them happy. Companionship is very important and we all should respect.
