After the celebration of Canet Rock music festival in 1975 and the subsequent death of Franco, the Barcelona underground comic emerged with such force that it became a phenomenon for the city's alternative culture. At the beginning of the 80's, the first free radio station in the city was created. Radio Pica was a breath of fresh air for a large number of young people who did not identify with conventional radio. In those years, the first punk music groups in Barcelona and fanzines dedicated to this genre emerged. It is also the beginning of urban art and graffiti in the city.

During the 80's Hip-Hop culture arrives in a pack to Barcelona. Films, exhibitions and parties based on this new alternative culture, strongly influenced different groups of young people in the city. Breakdance, graffiti or rap music will be assimilated by the first crews of B-Boys that appear in Barcelona. We see, also, the importance of the fanzines in the diffusion and rooting of Hip-Hop in these first generations.

After the first years of the appearance of punk in Barcelona, Hardcore arrives, a musical evolution that accelerates the rhythm of the songs, and brings a renewed discourse in its lyrics. The youngest become aware and new musical bands appear, accompanied by a new aesthetic and other ways of doing and thinking. The first skateboarders start to appear in the streets and the first squatter collective is formed, which will give rise to the first protest squats in the city.

In 1986 Barcelona is proclaimed host of the 1992 Olympic Games, in the following years the city undergoes great changes both at urban and social level. On the other hand, there is a boom in the creation of fanzines of all kinds and Ska music explodes in the musical panorama of the city. Everyone has their own opinion about what the Olympics represented for Barcelona, what many people agree on is that the mascot was great.

A new electronic music scene in the city gave rise to the first edition of the Sónar festival in 1994. Progressively, a club culture emerges in which the public and the sound are very varied. The practice of skateboarding experienced a boom and began to be practiced regularly in different squares and spaces throughout the city. The hip hop culture is consolidated with the professionalization of musical groups and the opening to a new public. The city flourishes and creativity in the different scenes begins to put Barcelona on the international scene.

At the end of the 90's in Barcelona there is a multicultural atmosphere, the city becomes the capital of mestizo music. At the same time, the anti-globalization movement is growing in the world and the Catalan capital is one of the references. Art and activism go hand in hand in the different social movements, creating countless collectives, one of the most influential of which was Las Agencias. All this atmosphere coincides with a revolution in the world of Barcelona graffiti, turning the city into a world reference of urban art, at the same time that the first raves emerge in different parts of the city.
