A stolen version of the film circulated in the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Czechoslovakia from 1921 under the title "Wonders of the Amazon" until around 1931, when all traces of it then disappeared, until it was rediscovered at the Národní filmový archiv in Prague in 2023. This rediscovered print appears to be complete with rare exceptions notably scenes showing the production of cocoa in Santarém. The surviving copy is a DCP made by the Prague archive derives from a b&w dupe negative made in 1981 from a now disintegrated tinted nitrate print.

It is believed that 1922's "No País das Amazonas" was Silvino Santos's attempt to remake this film after it was stolen and released under the title 'Wonders of the Amazon' which disappeared in 1938. In "No País das Amazonas" Santos attempt to show matching images of nuts, rubber, manatee and pirarucu fishing found in this earlier documentary. With very few location changes, the only footage that Santos reused involves the rituals of the indigenous Peruvian Witoto, with specific individual who can be recognized in both films. Santos also attempts to reproduce similar editing rhythms, framing, and sequencing of shots.
