The David Noble Way
Must see film about legendary activist & intellectual David Noble, who passed away in 2010. The film draws on clips of Noble's talks and interviews with friends and colleagues who were inspired by his courageous way of life.
I saw David Noble speak at an anti-schooling conference in Ottawa, Canada in autumn 2007. From his stories of defying his high school teachers' obedience-training rules to a two-man political protest as a university student that caused a U.S. Navy admiral to abandon his public talk on campus to "giving up the grade" as a professor in the interest of education based in intrinsic motivation, I don't think I've ever witnessed a more genuine or heartfelt presentation. Parts of the recording of that talk are used in the documentary, along with other great material. Thanks to the filmmakers for keeping the memory of this remarkable person alive.
