All weapons seen in the film are deactivated, yet authentic, World War II firearms. Luke Goddard's and Aaron Jeffcoate's characters carry British Lee Enfield bolt-action rifles, Mark Anthony Games carries a Bren, both Ross O'Hennessy and Jonas Daniel Alexander carry Sten submachine guns whilst the German soldiers carry MP40s. Luke Goddard's character is also seen using a Webley revolver.
Rehearsals for the British soldiers were conducted prior to filming commenced to ensure that they were all comfortable and familiar with one another and with their characters. However, the German soldiers were excluded from rehearsals and general contact with the rest of the cast, so that upon meeting on set for the first time, the hostility and resentment portrayed in the film would be more natural.
The British infantry uniforms provided for the film had originally been on the set of Atonement (2007), with further props provided from the recent set of David Ayer's Fury (2014).
56 actors applied for the role of Sergeant Browning. The role eventually went to Game of Thrones (2011) actor Ross O'Hennessy.
