Together with his analyst, Inspector Felix Murot, who is currently experiencing depression, tries to get to the bottom of the question of happiness. At the same time, two strange corpses are discovered one after the other in the Frankfurt banking world. The navels of the two dead people were removed and a bizarre port was placed through which they could be docked to an umbilical cord and thus fed. The investigation leads Murot into a disturbing underworld, very close to a great, incredible and, above all, irresistible promise of happiness. Then, one morning in front of the bathroom mirror, Murot is dismayed to discover that he no longer has a navel but is wearing the strange port. He is now part of the abysmal events himself, constantly in danger that his desperate search for happiness could destroy him.
