Synopsis

  • Open with Emily on a boat in a white dress, holding a glass of champagne. She tells somebody off-screen "I'm sorry," then is shot twice in the stomach and falls into the water.

    TWO MONTHS EARLIER

Emily and Daniel relaxing by the pool and talking about setting a date for their wedding. They haven't hear from Victoria in six months.

Cut to Victoria riding horses with a young man she's been staying with during this time. She tells him he's going to have to leave when Conrad returns. Charlie arrives and they talk about difficult the past few months have been for her losing Declan and the baby. Charlie graduated earlier and had been in Europe.

We see Nolan being released from prison. Emily is waiting for him. He's out because a failsafe he built into Carrion was finally able to exonerate him while exposing the remaining Initiative members. Emily fills Nolan in on what has been happening and he promises to remain by her side until they bring down everyone who took out her father. She has a "long summer of fun" planned and hopes the following day's Memorial Day celebration will be the last one ever for the Graysons.

Daniel goes to see his now-governor father. He has a job offer for Daniel with a private business but he's not thrilled. Conrad feels he's a presidential candidate in the making and wants more security at Emily's party.

Emily runs into Ashley outside the Stowaway, which is now closed. Ashley's no longer with Conrad and threatens to expose her to the Graysons if Emily doesn't help her.

Daniel runs into an old female friend named Margot. She'll be at the party the following night at Emily's party.

Charlie stops by Emily's place and gives her an update on Victoria, mentioning the "boy toy" her mother's been shacking up with.

Emily goes to see Victoria. She says she hasn't yet received an RSVP from Victoria. Emily says Ashley told her of Victoria's affair. Victoria denies it, saying her newfound happiness is the result of being reunited with Patrick.

The next morning Emily tells Daniel about seeing his mother. She wants them to relax and enjoy the party and he tells her about Conrad wanting to increase security.

Charlie goes to see Conrad. She tells him how proud she is of him. Victoria arrives and catches up with Conrad and her daughter. She's still not willing to help him politically on a full-time basis. His response is to say he's putting Grayson mansion on the market.

Emily asks Nolan to hack one of the X-ray machines at her party. He says he done with that kind of stuff for awhile, but tells her "there might be a way." He gets a text that Jack is back.

Charlie waits in the hotel room of the man her mother's been with for the past six months. He tells her that he's Patrick, her brother. Victoria hasn't been having an affair. Charlie warns him about Victoria and leaves quickly.

Emily goes to the Stowaway to see Jack. He's been "introducing my son to his extended family." She apologizes for lying to him about her true identity. Jack says he understands the love a child has for his father and gets why she did what she did. They kiss and he says he'll keep her secret.

Patrick asks Victoria to stop by and see him. She sees that his bags are packed. He's returning to the city and Victoria asks if he's punishing her. He says "it's time" and promises to be in touch.

Margot finds Daniel at the party. Emily asks Conrad to say a few words after her remarks. Emily introduces Ashley to a doctor named Velez. Daniel introduces Margot to Emily. Everybody looks up and sees Nolan parachute into the middle of the party. Conrad is upset and Emily hands him a bottle of water. After Emily officially unveils a new portrait of Conrad, the governor takes the podium. He struggles to speak and collapses to the ground.

At the hospital Velez tells Conrad that he has Huntington's disease. It's a fatal, progressive neurological condition. The doctor suggests he avoid stress, but Conrad says his father worked until retirement with the same condition.

Daniel tells the press only that his father had "severe dehydration." Margot arrives at the hospital and references Huntington's. Somebody has leaked a report citing a source close to the family.

Victoria tells Emily everything good is being torn away from her. Daniel arrives and reveals that the diagnosis is public. Emily thinks this means Conrad needs to step down. Emily points out to Victoria that Ashley and Velez were chummy and wonders if Ashley sold her story to the press.

Later that evening Jack asks Emily about orchestrating everything that happened to Conrad that day. She thinks this is what the Graysons deserve. Jack wonders if any of the fallout could put him or others in danger. He tells her to leave after the summer or he'll reveal her secret.

Victoria confronts Ashley with Emily. They discuss Conrad's bombing. Records indicate that Ashley tried to lure Daniel to his death that day. They demand she get on a plane and leave. Ashley says "you're evil." Victoria responds "we're family."

Daniel researches Huntington's and is worried about his father's future. Emily says they should get married before the end of the summer for Conrad's sake. She suggests August 8, a date she's always imagined would be wonderful.

Charlie tells Victoria she's moving out, "because you're obviously happier with your other children." After she leaves Victoria gets a text from Daniel with the wedding date. Conrad walks in and says the house will no longer be on the market.

Emily and Conrad share some wine on the beach. We see that Nolan brought with him the drug that Emily placed in Conrad's water. We also see that Emily downloaded the diagnosis from Velez' computer. Emily's plan is the use her wedding to take down Victoria.

Victoria finds Aiden on her balcony. He says he wants what she wants, "to destroy the girl next door."
