When Luke is reviewing memories, he is viewing one where he is walking through New York on a monitor with his friend and two angels. However, from his visual point of view, he would not be able to see himself from the camera point of view.
This is explained, by implication at least, when he is looking at himself as a child and switches to POV view. Obviously the technology is able to 'see' memories from various viewpoints.
