Ali thinks he's doing everything right on his goal to become an American as quickly as possible: He pays tuition for an English language school to keep him on a student visa, works under the table at a coffee shop, and lives on the couch in Erin's apartment, a pothead from California. Things start falling apart when he finds out that the school now requires mandatory full-time attendance. His parents pressure him to go back home, get married and settle down with a girl of their choice, but he thinks he deserves a western way of life and therefore it is out of the question for him. One his friends, Ahmet, suggests that Ali ask Erin to marry him to resolve his undocumented lifestyle. Ali disagrees, considering she is high all the time. But after receiving a letter from the Turkish Consulate drafting him into the Military, he is left with no other choice than follow Ahmet's idea.
