Jagun jagun is mid
umorenamzi18 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Jagun jagun isn't the revolutionary groundbreaker you think it is. It's repetitive, tasteless and lacks creativity. The concept of what Femi was trying to do is good, but the execution was terrible. The fight scenes were okay, but what was going on with your cinematography? And the love story between the protagonist and the princess was rushed. Imagine jumping from punishing a prisoner to inviting him to chat... doesn't make any sense. Stories should take more time to develop, and build character. I could've written this story better. And your visual effects need a lot of work. There's no creativity in that aspect either. Like the scene where (I want to assume that was dust) formed shapes to show ogundiji what was happening, it could have been done more realistically with jet turbines. And you ruined the assassin demon, that would have been wonderful if done well. Do better.

Far from what I expected. Reeeaaaally far.
AdamWestgarden15 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Finally I thought I'm gonna see a good movie about African culture, because I'm really interested in it, but this movie's been a huge disappointment.

What I mostly care about in a film is the story, the characters and consistency. I don't give a thing about cinematography and visual effects at all, I don't care if there's no music at all, or if the dialogues sound scratchy. I don't even care if it's filmed with a calculator.

I don't have high expectations, so as for me, I'm satisfied with a movie, if the story is "barely okay" (no need for epic plot twists), if the characters are relatable (just be "human", you know?), and if there are no huge plotholes.

But this thing... it was like Birdemic.

This is a job well done!!
adewaleagosu13 August 2023
I'm pleasantly surprised by the this Epic action Yoruba movie. First time ever!! The musical chants comb with the instrumentals are top notch. The plot and the fights scenes are good as well as the cinematography. The only short comings I observed was the part the actor was left in the coffin in the river , the edited part was not quite accurate , other than this, it's a very well delivered job for me. I wondered why the rating on IMDB showed 3.9 stars. Common! This movie deserves much more than that ! The casts , the effect, the sound and the music are all top notch. For me , this is the first epic Yoruba movie that really got my attention.

A brilliant representation of Yoruba culture
exceladeogun16 August 2023
Jagun Jagun The Warrior

This tells the story of a mercenary warlord who becomes jealous of the rise of an underling.

With a staggering number of a-list actors, it comes as no surprise that Jagun Jagun is splendidly acted. Lateef Adedimeji is a wonderful lead, and Femi Adebayo provides a menacing antagonist. The supporting cast of Bukunmi Oluwashina, and Fathia Williams among others also deliver great performances.

There's a lot to praise about this Nollywood flick; Jagun Jagun is aided well by its costuming, the soundtrack and the cinematography. The cultural representation of the Yoruba people is very brilliant. It's also delightful to see that the dialogues were also well thought out, this helps bring life to the scenes, even the predictable ones. There's also a splendid plot twist in its final moments.

Jagun Jagun is gory but in a necessary way. It uses violence in an assured manner that isn't meant to shock but to accompany the story.

The movie also finds a subtle yet discernable way to infuse its themes of political malady, political thuggery and hooliganism.

For its flaws, the pacing of the plot wasn't always clean, and the visual effects could have used more work (the underwater scene is a clear example). The fight scenes for a Nigerian movie were splendid, but on a world scale, it still needed better choreography and direction.

7/10.

we loooved Jagun Jagun!!!
ngandacinema12 August 2023
We loved King of Thieves and we love Jagun Jagun even more๐Ÿ˜

A round of applause for the Adebayo brothers for coming up with such an outstanding script and production. Jagun Jagun was a one-of-a-kind story. It was bloody, violent, full of rage, and carried a great message.

DELICIOUS

-We experienced the warrior energy: the scuffles, clashes of swords, and passion to kill.

There was fear in the atmosphere with the sound and visual effects when evil spirits were around, especially when Agemo๐Ÿ˜ฑ

-The make-up was well done, the team paid attention to little details even making the teeth dirty

-Strong dialogues on board as well as relevant and inspirational proverbs

-Art direction was flawless. We were right away invited into the historical time. Nothing to criticize when it came to the costume design

-Soundtrack radiated the agony, power, and mystery reigning in the story

-Lateef Adedimeji proved once again what an excellent actor he is. He was a brave man full of determination that stood against injustice.

Femi Adebayo, barely had any emotions on his face, accentuating how heartless he was.

Kudos to Bukunmi Oluwashina, Aisha Lawal, and the rest of the supporting cast

-It was obvious that injustice was dominant everywhere. People were being killed like mosquitoes and the main purpose of the story was to put a stop to it. And the call to rise up and fight was so needed

BLAND

---Tiny misses included the slow pace of the storytelling at the beginning.

The lighting of the night scenes clearly used electricity so it didn't appear real.

The editing at times cut the score too suddenly when transitioning to the next scene

The VFX moment in the underwater scene looked really fake + a small continuity issue

But compared to the amazing work produced, these tiny misses can be overlooked. Bravo!

A good watch
codedall18 August 2023
The movie was a true spectacle, delivering a fantastic cinematic experience that resonated with its exceptional cast and enthralling visual effects. As I settled into the theater, the anticipation was palpable, and I must say, my expectations were met with flying colors. From the very beginning, the film's world-building and immersive storytelling style captivated my attention.

While my overall enjoyment was immense, I couldn't help but reflect on the dynamics of character development that we've witnessed in films like Anikulapo. The depth and richness brought to characters in that context really added layers to the narrative. It made me realize that even in a visually striking movie, a well-crafted character background can be the extra ingredient that elevates the story.

One aspect that particularly caught my attention was the protagonist's backstory. Though the movie gave us a glimpse into their life, it left me craving more. A deeper exploration of their journey, motivations, and perhaps the circumstances that granted them the unique ability to communicate with and command trees would have truly added an intriguing layer to the narrative. This kind of character insight can establish a stronger emotional connection between the audience and the story's unfolding events.

Despite this longing for a more profound character exposition, I still find myself engrossed in the film's visual marvels and the overall unfolding of the plot. The stunning visuals alone deserve commendation, and coupled with the commendable performances of the cast, the movie undoubtedly holds its own.

Taking everything into consideration, if I were to rate the movie, I would confidently give it a solid 7.5 out of 10. The film managed to hold my attention, provide a captivating experience, and ignite my curiosity, but it left room for that extra layer of depth that could have truly set it apart. Nonetheless, it's a cinematic journey I'm glad to have embarked upon, and I'm looking forward to more creations from this talented team.

My best Nollywood movie by a stretch
haybhiee13 August 2023
Now I can admit that Nollywood is finally ready to make movies that revovle around deified figures like Sango, Ogun, Oya, and so on, and doing it in appealing ways. The movie depicts the ideal mercenary warlord in an African setting. The storyline is particularly great with attention paid to ensure no stone is left untouched. The role of Adedimeji was fantastically played. He gave his all. The graphics and the motion are wonderful.

I haven't seen a Nollywood mood this fitful, although I agree that different movies come with different inputs and, thus, varying outcomes. I would like to see them borrow a leaf from this to up the bar further from here.

Massive kudos to everyone who was a part if the movie.

2023's finest!
isaacadewale-2689912 August 2023
This is a masterpiece.

The excellent storyline is fast paced, combat is phenomenal and the Vfx used is a great leap from what we are all used to in nollywood.

Acting is top notch and I dare say this is an AMVCA award material.

Set design gave more life to the story with a very clear and adaptive use of natural elements like the mountain side.

More importance on the actually storyline, which creatively reflects some societal flaws in Africa's leadership.

Lateef, bukunmi and femi Adebayo really aced the screenplay with a strong presence and flawless acting.

Further applause to the director, producer, and editors of the great movie.

Big ups!

A well acted movie
padebayosamson13 August 2023
The movie was awesome, I loved all the cast and crew for a job well done. They all went extra length to shoot the movie. Right from The lead character, costume, Lightning, Videographer, music and location was giving. And I love the storyline that talks about betrayal and never lust of power and also the power of women. It has a lot of lesson to be learnt. Femi Adebayo did a good Job. We can't wait for part 2 because we know it's going to be a Banger. The Nollyhood industry should keep setting the pace high and return the glory of our movies to the world. We cant wait to see more of this in the cinema.

One of the best from Nollywood
olamidembl16 August 2023
This is one of the best Yoruba movies in Nollywood. People giving it lesser reviews don't get the context maybe because they are not Africans.

That being said I have watched this more than 3 times and I have enjoyed it every time.

The acting, cinematography, and the story are all point. You get to see the depth of the Yoruba culture in this movie if you pay attention to the details.

Femi Adebayo (the producer) really did a good thing with this movie and I applaud him for that. You don't get to see so many movies in the native Yoruba language on a global platform like Netflix so yeah, this is one for the books!

An Intense Movie
okiolamide13 August 2023
The Make, The Storyline, The Drama, The Action, The Tension, The Suspense, The Plot twist, The Rigidity and Authenticity of characters all woven to produce a wonderful movie.

This movie is everything you are searching for, especially when you want to feel empowered to do anything after a tough day๐Ÿ’ฏ.

An Embodiment of the Yorubas, A story that explains history and ancestral tradition in it's own way without diverting to impress viewers.

The actors did an incredible Job here and even left me looking through the Closing credits to the very end.

A cliff hanger to end the story, we will definitely be waiting for more of this.

Interesting storyline
rahmonsalam13 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A well scripted movie.

Watching Jagun Jagun, Gbotija got the initial sign but the desperation for vengeance won't let him think and go back. He forged on met the trials and the travails. However, destiny comes to play and truth comes to bear.

Ijebu was out to take early vengeance for the injustice being perpetuated by Ogundiji but destiny "kadara" come to play again.

Power is transient, views are ephemeral, the conscience will always seek for justice regardless.

Agemo is made up of three spirits

Juju and martial arts hmmmmmm

Femi Adebayo has proven to be in a class of his own after ageshinkole.

ONE OF THE BEST CINEMA/MOVIE EXPERIENCE OUT THERE
nurudeenadeleye20 April 2024
If you see any rating below 7, know that the person either doesn't recognise good movies or he or she is just hating.

The movie went beyond expectation really. The fight scenes, the special effects, the sound effect, everything was well thought out and the effort put in the movie was waaaaaaay worth it.

Nollywood standard has been raised by quite a distance by this movie. Femi Adebayo deserves his flowers. Even the whole cast itself was wonderful. Showcasing the yoruba culture while at the same time speaking about the current issues in the Country was well thought out.

Great movie and YOU should watch.

The Next Level for Epic Yoruba Movies
shopping-2226413 August 2023
Jagun Jagun!!! ๐Ÿ’ฅ I have chills ๐Ÿ˜ What?! Fantastic movie all round. Everything about the movie from storyline, dialogue, plot twist, costume, makeup, set was excellently executed and well thought out. Femi Adebayo ate this and left no crumbs whatsoever, both as an actor and as a producer. All actors gave their best - Itele, Bukunmi, Lateef and all the veterans present. The movie took us from fright to action to comedy and thrill, all in the right proportions. It wasn't just entertaining, it had many lesson's embedded in it, particularly towards the end of the movie. Best Yoruba Movie all round, a classic! ๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿพ

Insightful Yoruba culture portrayal
vmozix16 August 2023
Honestly am not a really big fan of Yoruba movies and Femi Adebayo in particular, cos I felt like he does overact his roles in movies... but this masterpiece has taken the whole Nollywood industry to the next level... The location was well arranged, the stunts were badass, down to the VFX! All the roles where acted top notch, I think a lot of Nollywood story writers and producers should learn a bunch from this phantom of a movie right here, doesn't mean there can't be a little or more improvement in the plot and twist in subsequent movies such as having a glimpse of how Agemo was kidnapped before finally revealing her story, proper heir-achy in Ogundiji's military setup... it was a banger though, great work Femi Adebayo my new Fav.

Bestest Nollywood Ever
ebibohpereye13 August 2023
Firstly, the best of our talents in the industry were engaged in this project and they all delivered irrespective of their roles, main or insignificant.

The culture portrayed , music, broadcast quality, storyline, acting, fight scenes, emotion ,locations, costume, even the tiniest of details was on point.

In-between a very strong message was delivered to Nigerians... It's a 10/10 for me.

With a standard like this, I m afraid a another good movie ll look ordinary to us.

These are times when you feel proud been a Nigerian. The Music & Movie industry are doing us well. They have gotten it right.

This is a Ten
amosuazeez14 January 2024
The story line fits the perfect ancient Yoruba cultural stories told to kids about warriors, god's and myths.

The costumes were well put together and the casting was perfect.

The graphics could have been better but one of the best I have seen for a Yoruba movie.

I have never seen this many A list Yoruba actors and actresses in one movie without taking the spotlight away from the storyline. No unnecessarily long scenes involved.

This is a movie I can categorically say people will watch more than once and not get tired even after so many years

The Story, cast, graphics, picture quality, costume, music were all on point.

This is a great movie.

Very engaging Yoruba Epic
shaderkul13 August 2023
Was pleasantly surprised by this movie.

The start-studded cast of veteran Nolly wood actors all gave amazing performances. No one dropped the ball or phoned it in.

There were no unnecessary, unfunny "comedic" scenes by flavour-of-the-month social media skit makers that cant act their way out of a wet paper bag, as is the irritating trend nowadays and I'm here for it.

The plot was interesting with a few genuinely surprising twists

The costumes, sets, props, music and VFX were all cohesive and on point, showcasing the Yoruba culture, especially the dialog (although a bit of the nuance and implied meanings of certain parts will be lost on non-native speakers)

The fight sequences were also very well done with believable feel and heft to it

All in all, an excellent movie.

Very captivating Story line with An Amazing showcase of tradition and culture.
tracypoland5 September 2023
Jagun Jagun is a captivating Yoruba movie that truly stands out in the genre. The film weaves a compelling story of tradition, culture, and family dynamics with a blend of suspense and drama that keeps the audience engaged from start to finish.

The performances of the cast are noteworthy, with each actor bringing their character to life with authenticity and depth. The lead characters, in particular, deliver standout performances that make the narrative even more impactful.

What sets Jagun Jagun apart is its ability to seamlessly blend traditional elements with modern storytelling techniques. The film beautifully showcases the richness of Yoruba culture while addressing contemporary issues and challenges faced by its characters.

The production quality of Jagun Jagun is commendable, with stunning cinematography and well-choreographed scenes that enhance the overall viewing experience. The film's soundtrack also complements the narrative, adding an emotional depth to key moments.

In summary, Jagun Jagun is a must-watch Yoruba movie that offers a well-crafted story, exceptional performances, and a glimpse into the vibrant Yoruba culture. It successfully combines tradition and modernity, making it a compelling and memorable cinematic experience.

It's epic
eniolaok19 August 2023
The movie is one of the best coming out of Nigeria, it's rich in culture and very detailed. I always give the ups to Kunle Afolayan for being one of our best, but this is really amazing and rich. As a yoruba, this made me very very proud. Lateef killed his role, infact, everyone delivered their roles. I wish other yoruba actors will watch this movie, learn one or two things and keep up the good works, they should maintain the same standard. Oh and I'll like to mention the guy who trained other actors for the action and make up, the action part was really nice, all the war was beautifully delivered.

Great Movie
adeyemotimothy6 September 2023
The storyline is relatable, intriguing and quite unambiguous. I was particularly thrilled with Agemo's invincibility, Ogundiji's ferocity and Gbogunmi's prowess in martial art๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜. Femi Adebayo didn't dissapoint on this one. Overall,JAGUN-JAGUN is indeed a great movie with the possibility for a sequel.

I would love to know if Ogundiji survived the barrage of piercings and stab injuries he suffered and what becomes of Gbotija. I also hope the producers improve on the cinematography and include more serene locations in the sequel, why? Because we have so many of such locations in Nigeria, so why not? (smiles)
