30 for 30 Shorts: The Irrelevant Giant (2013)

Legendary coach Bill Parcels sits down to talk about John Tuggle, the New York Giants last pick in the 1983 draft, which got him the now infamous name "Mr. Irrelevant." Expecting to be cut from the team before the season, Tuggle shocked everyone with his play but soon tragedy would take his life. Parcels is a pretty tough guy for those familiar with him and the sport of football. Seeing him get so choked up talking about Tuggle certainly backs up the words he's speaking about the man being such a great and strong person. This episode is certainly quite sad but it's also pretty uplifting as Parcels asks a pretty straight-forward question that I'm sure many people ask themselves and it's if you were to get gravely sick, would you be able to stay strong?

Irrelevant and always remembered

This episode has special meaning for me I knew and went to high school with John. He was a 3 sport athlete and very popular and well know person on campus. He always had time to say hi and ask you how it was going I got to know him because I followed his college career and saw his last Stanford/California football game and he made time once again to stop ad say hi. I would stay up late to watch him play MNF. The Giant organization was fist class in the way they treated John when he passed away coaches and players came to the service then when they went to the super bowl they had John's family at the game then when they won they made sure his parents got a super bowl ring and jerseys I'm glad ESPN did this show because I was forgetting what John looked like and now I can watch it and remember him and all he accomplished in his amazing short life. Thank you John.
