I'm an anime only and it was a terrible episode. Animation has been off, but the depression isn't handled well. It's been too sudden, and without enough context to give it depth. Rudeus is suddenly talking to his knees? And...biceps? Shoulders? There's a level of insanity/prolonged isolation/depression and the coping mechanisms that are just glossed over. Some of the jump cuts are fine, in that they run an expected linearity (asking to celebrate with to celebrating) and some that don't (suddenly missing) which collapse the perceived time between events making his mental state seem even more fractured. Soldat's contempt made no sense until I realized Rudeus must have been there longer than like three days that the incessant jump-without-time-context makes it seem. And where the hell did Quagmire come from? The storytelling is not up to par (and quite frankly hasn't been these two episodes. 0 was okay)
Are we also ignoring that the child he healed in the snow melt scene looked like a teen/adult? I was actively confused why they were crying like that until it was established they were just poorly drawn proportions. It feels rushed and it's suffering.
Those awkward distant shots, the awkward wide angle shots, sometimes low quality to high quality textures (maybe just me). The cinematography is kind of...wierd. Aside from pacing issues theres like more issues than that.
