Learn more- A journey through the history of Jazz in Mexico, exploring the places with the richest jazz traditions in the country. We will seek out the key players in this often-overlooked but rich history. Through interviews with musicians from both the past and present, we will learn about their achievements, efforts, frustrations, joys, and the day-to-day lives of these Mexican Jazz heroes.
The film will provide a comprehensive overview of the discography of most jazz groups that have existed, with the protagonists sharing their favorite songs. Complementing the narrative will be insights from enthusiasts, jazz venue owners (past and present), radio hosts, journalists, promoters, and specialists. They will offer their opinions on the different stages that this genre has gone through in the country, which, despite all circumstances, persists and remains vibrant in various states, enriching our cultural history day by day.
The film will explore different venues where jazz music has been enjoyed, featuring newspaper articles that inform us about the challenges musicians have faced throughout their creative journeys. We will learn about Jazz festivals from the very first to more recent ones.
Numerous concerts will enhance the film, showcasing both past and present performances, spanning from traditional jazz to new proposals and avant-garde or free jazz. Photographs will serve as powerful testimony to the dedication of these musicians who have played their instruments until the very end.
These jazz musicians, influenced by various circumstances, primarily economic, have enriched different musical genres in Mexico, from bolero to rock, salsa, merengue, and rancheras. We will witness jazz musicians' interpretations in past films and television programs, reliving great moments of those who are no longer with us and of groups that are integral to history, even if they never recorded an album.
The film will take us behind the scenes of recording sessions for some upcoming albums set to hit the market.
