Music: A Marvin Gaye story received the blessings from both Janis, his ex wife and Nona Gaye, Marvin's daughter, to film after reading the first draft of the script.
With the same preparation he did playing Tupac Shakur, Damian Bailey listened to every song, watched every interview and documentaries 24/7 for a month before filming to capture Marvin's essence, voice and charisma.
Filmmaker Damian Bailey was going through a divorce and was inspired by the album "Here my Dear" by Marvin Gaye, to create the film.
Although the story doesn't specifically address the year, it takes place in the late 70's early 80's. Marvin and Janis Gaye were divorced in 1981. Marvin's wardrobe is a replica of his photo shoot of the album "Let's Get It On" which was released in 1974. The period of the short would chronicle the beginning of the end of Marvin's sanity and life.
Filmed in the Bronx on one day in November, 5 hours before Hurricane Sandy hit New York City.
