Game Grumps as a series was formed as the two then front-men Jon Jafari and Arin Hanson argued over whether Super Smash Bros. characters Wolf and Fox were clones. Their intense debate had a friend snap for them to stop being so 'grumpy' over a game.
Despite the lengthy play through and the frequent discussions of the games poor quality, both Arin Hanson and Jon Jafari admitted to having a 'special place' for Sonic '06 but mainly due to the other's company.
In June 2013, Jon Jafari announced that he intended to leave "Game Grumps" due to a shift in creative interests and a want to continue his show, "Jontron". He was replaced by Daniel Avidan.
Despite seemingly having the guise of a Let's Play channel, Jon Jafari and Arin Hanson both insist that the show is in fact a talk show between two gaming enthusiasts.
The show has an avid cult following, with several amateur animators creating their own animated shorts using the commentary Jon and Arin provide.
