Jane Han, a Korean-American woman in her early 30s, finds herself cornered by the realization that her dreams of being a writer have led her nowhere. In a bout of avoidance and procrastination, Jane seeks to romanticize her life by frequenting karaoke bars, going on awkward blind dates, and enrolling in a poetry class at the local community center. Eventually, Jane's mother confronts her self-indulgent escapade. Jane begins to see her mother in a new light despite their cultural barrier and volatile relationship. As her connection with her mother undergoes a transformation, Jane starts perceiving her existence through a fresh lens, unearthing a renewed perspective on what it means to be human and the pursuit of happiness.
