Synopsis

  • Noah Daniels' wife Callie comes home from her business trip and finds their living room trashed and her husband's phone on the floor. There's a blood trail on the floor and the back door is open. Her neighbor Ben comes in, the back door has been open all morning. Noah is gone.

At the office, Tony is alarmed that Ziva is five minutes late. She thinks something's up with her.

Gibbs comes in with the case of the week: a Naval officer's husband has gone missing.

Vance tells Gibbs that Homeland has called twice about Ziva looking into her father's murder.

At the Daniels' house, neighbor Ben describes an older model sedan with tinted windows he saw outside the house.

McGee finds Noah's severed finger in the trash.

Back at the morgue, Duckie works up a psych profile and kicks Palmer out, but Palmer protests and Duckie agrees to teach him.

Upstairs, they learn Callie was working on a classified case and just got back from San Diego. They find Noah Daniels being driven away on a traffic cam at 2:15 a.m.

Gibbs visits Abby in the garage, where she has recreated the crime scene. The attacker didn't violently enter the house. The blood on the couch indicates his finger was cut off there. She hasn't found any prints. The finger was severed surgically at the joint. She found a second blood type on the floor.

Gibbs and Ziva update Callie. She talked to Noah at 10 p.m. from on the road, he was watching the news and playing the computer.

They find bank records showing Noah had more than $2 million in trust from his dad's business. Callie says Noah would never give up the money because his father worked too hard for it. Callie gets a call from Noah. They hear a voice say "meet me or he dies" then Noah saying it's a trap, then what could be gunshots. They trace the call and find the sedan Noah was abducted in.

There's blood inside, but no Noah.

The car is registered to Landers Orton from Roanoke. Gibbs and Tony talk to him back in interrogation. He says he thinks his brother Darryl might be involved. He lent Darryl his car and Darryl took his debit card.

Back in the office, frazzled Callie lashes out at Gibbs.

Darryl Orton has been in and out of jail, including for assault with a deadly weapon. There are multiple charges to a Mexican restaurant where Noah Daniels also went at the same time.

Ziva talks to Callie in the restroom, assuring her they'll find him. Callie confesses that things have been bad between them.

Ziva and Tony check out the restaurant and talk to the owner (Lourdes Benedicto), she recognizes photos of Noah and Darryl and knows Noah recently came into money. Ziva takes a call in Hebrew, Tony is suspicious.

In the morgue, Duckie explains that Darryl isn't afraid to die and craves a sense of belonging and a real family. They think he went home to his brother in southwestern Virginia.

Vance meets with Tom Morrow from Homeland Security, former head of NCIS. He tells Leon that CIA also knows Ziva is looking into her father's death. Morrow says recent intel says the man who orchestrated her father's murder, Mossad Deputy Director Ilan Bodnar was last seen in Rome. He assures Vance they're handling it.

They find that Daniels' bank account has been emptied, even though the FBI froze it. Darryl opened an account with $37,000 -- he's spreading the money around, too complex a scheme for a high school drop out.

Gibbs visits Abby again, who says the rugs and walls should be roughed up but because they aren't, it means Noah was carried out unconscious, which means Darryl had help.

Darryl Orton's brother has an alibi. They get a tip that leads to a hotel.

Tony, Ziva and Gibbs check it out and find Darryl Orton dead with a gun beside the bed. He left a note: "Sorry to all I hurt. He's dead, I threw his body in the Potomac."

Back in the morgue, Duckie says the gunshot wasn't self-inflicted, it was a staged suicide.

Back at NCIS, Abby brings up a picture that was found on the floor. The frame would be cracked if it fell, but it wasn't. Also, the tipped over couch was solid oak and couldn't have just been knocked over. The crime scene was staged. They think Noah Daniels staged his own abduction. They play the phone tip and Tony and Ziva recognize the restaurant owner's voice.

They pay her a visit. It's her second restaurant to fall into debt. They have phone records linking them. They think she cut his finger off since she had culinary training. She says no one was supposed to get hurt and they were just supposed to get away. She agrees to cooperate.

Gibbs and McGee find Noah Daniels on a bus out of town. Callie confronts him, but he doesn't have anything to say. Ziva takes Callie's hurt personally.

Back at the office late at night, Tony continues to worry about how Ziva is handling her father's death. Gibbs gives him permission to look into it, telling him to go find her.

Tony goes to Abby to ping Ziva's cell phone.

Abby leads him to a dingy apartment building. He knocks on the door and is shocked to find McGee already there. They have an entire investigation set up on the walls. They explain they were going to tell Tony. Ziva explains there have been sightings of Bodner throughout Europe. Ziva resolves not to stop until she finds him. Tony asks when she's going to tell Gibbs.

Back at the office, Ziva asks for permission to go to Europe to find him. Gibbs knew she was looking into, but was waiting for her to tell him. He tells her Bodner's in Rome and suggests she take Tony. Vance also gives his blessing.
