Sex & Nudity
-
- 2 HECU soldiers joke about, "wrangling up those lady doctors," implying rape.
Violence & Gore
-
- Graphics, although heavily improved, are still not realistic enough to make the violence truly disturbing. Limbs can be severed and blown off and bone can be seen but the art style makes it kind of cartoonish.
- As it is a first-person-shooter, expect frequent firefights.
- The violence in "Black Mesa" is somewhere between realistic and cartoony.
- Shooting a high-powered weapon such as a turret or a shotgun at someone will result in them gibbing (i.e: turning into bloody chunks of flesh). This isn't nearly as graphic as it sounds.
- Zombies' chests are torn open and they are covered in blood.
- Igniting someone will result in their bodies being charred and bloody.
- An elevator full of scientists plummets and explodes, killing them.
- Shooting someone with a machine gun will result in blood splatter.
Profanity
-
- All kinds of profanity is used throughout the game. During combat, many interactions between individuals will involve swearing.
- At one point, the word "fuck" was almost mouthed by a H.E.C.U. Marine on a radio.
- Religious exclamations and profanities include: "Goddamn," "Jesus Christ," "Jesus," "Oh, my God," "For Christ's sake," "For God's sake," "My God" and "Oh, God."
Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking
-
- Morphine is administered through the HEV suit to Gordon when your health gets low.
- H.E.C.U Marines and sometimes Security Guards can be seen with cigars in their mouths.
- Scientists can heal the player by giving them an injection.
- Guards frequently joke about beer throughout the game.
Frightening & Intense Scenes
-
- The whole game is intense.
- G-Man's appearances can be a bit freaky.
- Possible intense sequences include the Gargantuan sequence in the chapter "Power Up," the ambush in the chapter "Questionable Ethics," the level "We Got Hostiles" and the tentacle scene in "Blast Pit."
Spoilers
