An interesting story, but the frantic pacing and heavy production hinder it.

2003, Madrid, a killer leaves a calling card at the crime scene, a playing card.

It's a fascinating case, a series of brutal murders, a case that led to a media frenzy and a wave of public fear. It's a very bizarre story, with some surprising revelations.

After episodes one and two, I was set to roast this series, but episode three however is something of a turnaround, and serves as a very interesting, pretty satisfying conclusion.

It's in its natural Spanish, so if you're lucky enough to speak some, you'll have a better time of it, the dubbing jars at times.

Lots of interesting footage, but there's just too much of it, you will feel bombarded.

At three episodes, it's too long, this should have been a ninety minute one off production, episodes one and two are heavily padded out, and both seem over produced.

The interviews are very short, so for the casual viewer it seems to jump rapidly from one scene to the next, it's a frantic pace, it would have worked so much better if they'd just toned it down a few notches.

6/10.

"So So"

I rarely rate anything on Netflix but just finished watching this show and had to share some comments. An interesting story but could have been only 2 episodes. It went on and on, with multiple persons saying the say thing over and over again. Very repetitious. It seems too many people such as the journalists and conspiracy theorists simply wanted the spotlight in this case and tried to make themselves much more relevant and important to the case than they really were. Much of what they said was not helpful to the story, nor worth repeating over and over again-such as I am doing. I think you get the point..

SHOCKINGLY BAD

Warning: Spoilers
I have never watched a WORSE true crime documentary where nobody , except the survivors or the families of the victims come out with anything approaching sympathy . Why it was made into a documentary I have no idea and I am not sure who comes out if it the worst ..... the newspapers , the television stations , the police , the army , the government or even the killer . WHY make a documentary featuring all these incompetent players in a case where NOBODY was even close to identifying the killer until he got drunk and turned himself in then scramble to take credit for his " capture " and the bunch of vultures feeding on the bodies of the victims from all directions appear as morally bankrupt as the murderer.

a spanish crime...

Warning: Spoilers
From true life, loads of suspencion, and a huge loads of barrancas to follow in the hunt for the playing card killer.

I do really look forward to these kinda productions, even though marketed by netflix, where crimes other than the ordinary and typical american production, as in this case a spanish one, sprinkles some new spicy stuff of investigating methods and the huge differance in the cultural aspects how to hook the criminal.

This series have an unusual way of spotting the light, as its mainly the reflectance of how the press and media handled these crimes, devouring them you might say, but its very well done. Spanish police , and all its branches hasnt got the best reputation whether on prisoners treatment, nor working as a team of investigating beuraus, but somehow they scared the culpables enough to stirr out an explanation.

So as a true world crime opportunist it works, make more, there are loads to take from, but do give them english cc's as an oportunity ,that is the key to win the audiences. A recommend from the grumpy old man.
