1900 - 1930 Denmark has not always been a small, happy, rich country. And our prosperity did not come about by itself and must not be taken for granted. In this series, Liv Thomsen gives voice to Underdanmark, the other half, those who lived in the shadows, far from the hard floors and nice bourgeois homes. This time it is about Marie Christensen, who was one of many maids around the year 1900. The girls were treated like slaves, worked hard most of the day and lived in tiny rooms. In the scant free time, some of the girls got into accidents or resorted to prostitution, and the judgment of the outside world was harsh.
