Thoughts from someone who doesn't watch the UFC
lovemichaeljordan17 May 2023
McGregor is very likeable in this. All sports fans have seen McGregor's famous press conferences and some of his sports highlights. This is a great insight into the behind the scenes of the most influential MMA athlete ever.

It's enjoyable to see McGregor act humble and normal outside of his press conferences. He is a hard working father. Even haters will likely see McGregor in a different light after watching this. I used to think that he was not very nice, but after seeing this miniseries I appreciate him. He is a phenomenal athlete, entertainer and father. Say what you want about him but he sells tickets.

The episodes are very well shot. Fighting rarely look more beautiful than this. McGregor's training, fighting, movement and agility are beautiful to look at. So this is why it's called martial ARTS.

Nice to watch, but it's not very critical
bscrooked19 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It's OK to watch, I'm regularly watching UFC, so I know his history. Khabib still lives in his head, suddenly acting humble and respectful around the second Poirier fight, going back to the "old Conor" for their third fight... Nah. Treating to kill Poirier and his family while they are sleeping and stuff like this isn't the usual trash talk. Too bad that he broke his ankle, otherwise Poirier would've probably ko'ed I'm for the second time. Maybe that would've gotten him down to earth.

He is/was a phenomenal fight, but with the success and all the money his personal downfall started. Too bad.

Nice to watch, but it's missing a lot of the bs he has done.

4 episode review
CommanderCobra22 May 2023
Overall a good watch, particularly for fans of mma and the Irish. I gave it a 6/10, it's very introspective and really provides complete insider access to his day to day over the last 4 years or so.

My biggest knock and the reason it wasn't rated higher is it's too centric to the last 4 years. It could've been more of his youth and journey to the top and still be 4 episodes. Perhaps a quick walk through of each UFC match, and the screen shows his record getting better and better.

I wouldn't be surprised if they do another 3 or 4 episodes follow up in a couple years and I'd be game to watch it.

It's a documentary so agenda and bias included by nature. Someone trashed it because it wasn't objective - that's like trashing the sky for being blue. Every documentary has a conclusion that it is trying to impart on the viewer.

It was fun and provided a bit of extra back story to the semi-collapse of the Mcgregor legend.

It is interesting to see how he handles his worst moments, back stage, in the hospital etc.

It's obvious why this guy is so successful.

The pacing, editing, music etc of the documentary was nice and polished but a bit tired and worn at this point. Nothing different or ground breaking on that front.

The documentary sticks to fighting and doesn't spend time on the scandles Conor found himself involved with.

A fascinating insight into the live of Conor McGregor. You can't doubt his hunger and drive, and this documentary shows the genuine side to the man. He's actually quite likeable, and not only 100% dedicated to the sport but also his family. He's also driven to being successful in business/his personal wealth. Although he has plenty in the bank, he keeps talking about hitting "his number". Some might call it greedy but I personally admire the drive. If you can why not grab everything you can before it's all over.

However, this documentary covers four fights, and he loses three. If anything it leaves you wondering if his best days are behind him, and he should now just give it up before he's seriously hurt.

Nice to see a different side...
rukstar6923 May 2023
I was never the biggest Conor McGregor fan but this different side of him opened me up a bit. I always enjoyed watching him fight but always rooted against him. In this mini series you get to see a little bit inside this incredibly for lack of a better word, enigma of a man. He's seems to be torn between being that once stop and nothing hungry fighter trying to make it and now having everything he ever dreamed of. You can't be half a fighter. Marvin Hagler once said: "It's tough to get out of bed to do roadwork at 5am when you're sleeping in silk pajamas ." That's seems to ring true for The Notorious. I've become somewhat of a fan seeing the different side of him. Seeing him being a Father and husband. This is a good watch.

Just Awesome

Warning: Spoilers
This was a very good Documentary and most of all the first episode was a banger. I never expected him to be this calm behind the scene's and most of all even though being his hardcore fan I never knew he was a great family guy and we get to see all the injuries that he had to deal with ,prior to his fights and we get to see a completley diffrent Conor and what suprised me the most was his confidence to rise back up and I think every mma fan can definitely give it a go and watch this series to know what the real Conor Mcgregor is. Hat's off to the man who made most of the people of our generation to get into this sport and awiting for his comeback and to finish this series like a "Last ride to glory" with him being on the top when it's all set and done.

True Fighter!
ravikfic31 May 2023
I usually see some boxing matches, and movies on them. Was a wrestling fan as a kid. I'm not a fan of UFC/MMA, but I've seen fighting reels of this guy and khabib on instagram from quiet some time.

Series is nicely put. Binge watched it. Some moments has good BGM. Not sure if it covered the entire biography/story of mcGregor, but surely covered key moments from his life.

What I learnt from this :

a fighter is always a fighter no matter how rich you become. That fire never dies.

Never give up. Failures are going to make you even more stronger and a chance to make you a better version of yourself.

No one can do what this man has done in UFC in next 100 years
kmbvjgmpn17 May 2023
This just shows how stuffed up he was turning into to his last 2 fights. Man's leg was already gone before he entered the fight. He wasn't lying! Hate him or love him there is only one Conor Mcregor! Money or spoils of war doesn't determine his passion for the sport.

Hope he really comes out of this dark side of his life. Good luck to chandler he is really getting a monster this time. Win or lose everyone just can't keep their eyes of him.

The mini documentary really has covered the most of his aspects of his life from 2018 to his last fight, From babies to never seen raw footages of after his fight losing ends. It's a well done documentary! With lots of unseen footage.

Docu about a unique fighter!
screamyever18 May 2023
Wonderful documentary about the most popular MMA fighter!

I'm already a bug UFC Fan and I watch all the fights for years now. So, I've already known which fights he'll win or lose.

But still, it was nice to see a little bit more behind the scenes-stuff and it's visually very well done. The balance about training and fights was well balanced with the life outside the gym and octagon.

For me, it could've been filmed even more insights in his personal life and about his charity work.

But I guess for people who are new to MMA, this might be the perfect documentary to make them curious about this sport.

It was also not too long, 4 episodes in a good length.

Enjoy! :)

A hit or miss Mcgregor-flex
Andrew42628 May 2023
Good stuff first - Mcgregor when he's a down to earth family man and honourable and humble martial artist is PEAK Mcgregor. I find the moments when he's a loving father and husband and just a normal person far better than when he acts like a glorified thug with money. The series covers a very interesting period in his life, basically post Mayweather when he had it all - a treat for superfans.

However this whole series just screams ego-project, and feels pretty revisionist.

Episode 1 completely downplayed Conors inexcusable antics during his Khabib rivalry and Dana is portrayed as almost sycophantic to him after the fight.

An interview said that the fight "bought out the worst" in Mcgregor and Khabib, as if Khabib's "worst" was somehow remotely on the same level. Mcgregor was essentially portrayed as just 'not being himself' instead of a completely unhinged maniac. He said and did some really bad things during the rivalry that just aren't shown here. Let alone his ridiculous Twitter activity.

Episode 2 also naturally ignores the fact that Cowboy was on a 2 fight losing streak before the fight and past his prime, but sure. The ep made the fight look a lot more competitive than it actually was, and basically made it look like Conor had overcome some sort of impossible odds, when in reality, the Cowboy bout was clearly a gimme fight, all respect to the latter.

Wasn't much to cover with ep 3, but ep 4 gives an interesting prelude to what led to his recent injury, despite yet again trying to excuse/cover up his bizarre behaviour pre and post fight

Overall this series won't do much to win back lost fans, but those who are still on the Mcgregor train will probably get a good kick out of this. Just go in knowing the facts aren't all there and that naturally, Khabib, Cerrone and Dustin's perspectives are totally sidelined and nonexistent.

A peak into his life outside the ring.
Mahmood-i-saeed22 May 2023
I absolutely love it!

The show not only entertains but also provides a profound understanding of McGregor's life. It goes beyond the public image of a brash and outspoken fighter, delving into the depths of his persona to reveal a surprising soft side.

This glimpse into McGregor's personal life showcases his unwavering determination as a true fighter, while also highlighting his commitment as a dedicated family man.

Through its captivating portrayal, the show takes us on an engaging journey, taking us on an emotional rollercoaster as we witness his highs and lows, victories and setbacks.

Inspirational
ishansapkota-4489519 May 2023
Even after the leg's broken Conor McGregor asks the doctor when can he start training and fight next. Dude has every thing in the world the money, fame, power, family, support, love but still wants to compete. This shows how great this man is. Changed the sport forever. The hate conor gets baffles me. He has done some wrong things in his life, but he has done more for the people which no one talks about, each year he provides a million dollars to The first responders, donates to the one who needs, helped during covid. They dont talk about the positive things he has done. Conor is a once in a lifetime athlete, everytime he steps in the octagon is just magical. And we might not be able to see him that often, so whenever he fights enjoy the moment, appreciate the fact that he is still fighting. #mcgregorforever G. O. A. T.

A fair Docuseries of a complicated MMA fighter
chrisl-5038229 May 2023
In "McGregor Forever" the Netflix docuseries begins with Conor McGregor's match against Khabib "The Eagle" Nurmagomedov and then documents his matches against Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier.

My reason for giving the docuseries a 9 out of 10 is because Netflix, in my opinion, conveniently left out some other reported negative behaviors of Conor McGregor like punching a bar patron in Ireland because he reportedly didn't take a shot with him or punching an Italian DJ and reportedly breaking his nose. Besides the community service he had to complete because of the hand-truck incident involving Khabib Nurmagomedov, there appears to be little consequence for his behaviors which only allows for further destructive behavior. I imagine maturing, having children, and experiencing personal/professional setbacks can change some behavior over time.

I will say though that all-in-all the docuseries is really good and gives the viewer an insight into Conor McGregor's motivation for staying in the fight game despite success, fame, and a lifetime of comfort.

There is a scene in the docuseries where Conor McGregor is wearing a shirt that says either "Stay Humble" or "I am humble." I think the underlying theme of this docuseries is humility, not forgetting where you came from, and how much fame, money, and celebrity can impact drive, focus, and hunger. It is also quite fascinating to also see how fast the media can change their narrative based on your last performance. Media and its storylines/opinions should not decide one's future or career plans.

I do believe there is underlying insecurity Conor McGregor is facing here. He was professional and respectful towards Dustin Poirier in their second fight and decided to return to his old brash ways in their third fight. It felt as if returning to the villain role would help him recapture the days when being notorious was an edge he had in maintaining popularity and earning a victory.

Making money and ensuring that everyone considered family is taken care of is admirable; however, it certainly can affect vision and focus. Conor McGregor denies being afraid of losing or being successful. I dare to say that he is afraid of being forgotten about and/or afraid of irrelevancy. I believe his motivation for staying in the game is real and authentic.

The moments he has with his girlfriend, Dee Devlin, and their 3 children show another side of a man who appreciates his family and respects the woman who was by his side when he was struggling and didn't have much. The relationships he has with his team is close and remarkable. Although I question how much they set boundaries with him and hold him accountable.

Lastly, there is Dana White who knows Conor McGregor is a goldmine for the UFC, but sometimes doesn't know if he is actually worth the risk to book. I wonder if he shut him out of the UFC after his fight with Donald Cerrone or if McGregor's team was making him look like a victim. I do think that Dana White supports Conor McGregor overall, but has also enabled his poor behavior.

The docuseries leaves you regardless with formulating your own opinion on someone who people either love or hate.

Curved mirror view
ojafredi23 May 2023
Yea yea it may be inspirational at times. But what it also is incredibly repetitive as they use Conor's interviews where his thoughts really repeat on cycle. It's not like the guy is full of clever quotes and deep thoughts.

Also, it's selective in it's approach in covering the events. It's magnifying some that the producers want to emphasise and diminishing other events they're not too keen on. It's not a documentary, it's a subjective Conor promo movie that lacks the impartial view of things. In the end you're left wondering what was the point of this 4 eposode docuseries and why did they stop there.

refresh on Notorious
palynko18 May 2023
You might think that if you saw the movie, and watched the fights, you know it all. Yet, here we get new insights into the mind a emotional state of Conor. If you are a fan, you will love this, if you are a hater, you will still watch this.

The injury impact on a lifestyle of this warrior is really touching. He can take 10 defeats before 1 injury, because injury stops him from doing what he is obsessed about, while defeats only make him obsess more.

He isn't the fist king of controversy, not the worse thing than Elvis Presley... Inspirational man, regardless of all the drama. That will be forgotten much sooner than the legend of this Gladiator.

McGregor Forever Review
briankenna-4997618 May 2023
This documentary is absolutely incredible. He not only shows his bad sides but his good. It shows his losses and how he's battled from a 1 bedroom apartment in a very poor small town to a multi millionaire still hungry for fighting for the love of the sport and his fans. It shows how he was sidelined during the whole covid pandemic and how his return after the Donald cerrone absolute obliteration ruined his 4 fight a year season he was wanting to do. That pandemic ruined a true conor return to glory and once again sidelined him for years, which partly was the reason for his injury to his leg. Inactivity and heavy partying which any of us would do with his kind of money. He stuck with his wife from day 1 even after all the money and truly became an incredible family man with more to do than just fighting. Incredible business adventures, great charity moments. It shows conor from his weakest points to his strongest never hiding anything in between. He doesn't just show his wins but his deepest darkest losses and his return to greatness. Hate him or love him no one made the sport what it is today without conors name being the number 1 reason. From his ppv sales to his incredible fight personality. Unfortunately a famous quote is "its hard to wake up and hustle when sleeping in silk sheets." No matter how much money his love for the sport and his fans is what continues to give us these incredible memories of an absolute monster of a martial artist. This man is the ufc and we will all remember him for the greatness he brought even through his tough times, he came back for the fans and us true mma fans will love that in this man.

Completely Toothless
andrewkedwards25 May 2023
Only watched the first episode. It avoids most of the truly bad things Conor said and did. It's completely sanitized. Very little content you wouldn't have seen just watching the fight promos! It's essentially one long fight promo for a fight that happened nearly a decade ago. I don't really know what they were thinking putting this out. I guess it's a good promo for Conor's next fight and tries to make the UFC seem good. Even the voice-overs and narrators they chose are pointless. No one want's to hear Dana White talk about how Conor is the fighter of the century... the guy is a bit biased, don't you think!?

Thee Most Electrifying Fighter in MMA combat sports
18Buddha18 May 2023
For all of you who know him n love him or even for the people who hate him they will still have no choice but to respect him for his amazing accomplishments in MMA. His rude, brash, funny & entertaining comments during press conferences as well as his exciting fight style n matches helped make this man having the 8/13 of the records for highest ppvs numbers n anyone who denies his greatness can stay sour for his records n achievements will stand forever!

Now this documentary shows a different side to Conor that most arent used to seeing, while they do show his crazy antics & his hot headed moments in the UFC but they also show at the same time moments when you see him at his most vulnerable & you get a behind the scenes look at thee most popular & most richest MMA fighter ever.

If u hated him with a passion then maybe seeing his other side might help u hate him less & if u loved him before then u will even more as thai documentary centres around his Khabib fight & beyond and also showing the multiple times he had injuries & you see how he dealt with it & its a refreshing look inside the mind of Mcgregor, to see that even through his toughness & aggressiveness that theirs also moments when just like any other person he falls down to his lowest & suffers depression & sadness that he n other fighters can n do succumb too when they lose fights or worse is when it looks like career ending injuries occur.

You also get to see his first reactions after his losses & see what was going on in his mind at the time. I think we all who follow UFC saw what happened after the Khabib fight n how Khabib jumped out of the cage n then his teammates jumped in the cage to assault a weakened Conor & in this documentary u get to see his responses & reactions in the locker room just right after it happens & lets just say his reaction is surprising. Everyone probably imagined he would react a different way, it was honestly commendable n lets just say how he reacted... it was nothing like Jorge Masvidal when he lost to Colby, n he definitely didnt act like Colby after Masvidal jumped him outside a restaurant lmao.

Come celebrate & enjoy this documentary of 1 of the G. O. A. Ts in MMA forever! Many haters will try to argue he aint a GOAT n they will say Khabibs 29-0 record or maybe say George St Pierre or Jon Jones or Adesanya cuz of their title defenses n dominance but fighting stats isnt all that makes A GOAT. Mcgregor had more popularity before being champion then any champion in the history of the UFC, he fights excitingly standup striker, he predicts 1st round K. Os n got many right, he excites each fight during press conferences that hes the star of the show, he had the vision to become 1st double Champion of 2 weight classes at the same time, he broke set insane new PpV Records topping every combat sport #s except losing only to Mayweather Vs Pacqiao, he is now in Hollywood, hes become the richest in MMA & the fact his fight vs a washed up Donald Cerrone became a top 5 PPV says it all about his notoriety, hes the Most Popular MMA fighter & you can even argue besides Floyd Mayweather otherwise no one in Boxing is more popular either n PPV numbers dont lie.

So watch, enjoy, & keep on Supporting Conor Mcgregor because it doesnt matter what haters say that he hasnt fought much in the last 7 years n that hes only won 1 time since becoming double champ cuz who cares? The fact hes still more popular n sells higher ppvs even still knowing that fact shows how big he is, Real fans dont abandon who they support just cuz they on a downhill run, thats what separates him from others, other fighters only have fans cuz they winning (cough cough Khabib) while Mcgregor is supported always cuz of how big he made MmA become & his amazing accomplishments. This is What makes him The G. O. A. T n its non debatble!!!

Behind The Cameras and Lights
FilmSchoolFlunk25 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am a UFC fan now, and have been for the past year or so. McGregor's stardom was before my time with the UFC, but of course everyone knows the Notorious. It was an absolute treat to be able to see Connor as intimately as we do in this series. It reinforces the fact that fighting and other sports for that matter are show business, and these people are not at all like that off stage. I truly enjoyed watching connor spend time with his family and getting a glimpse into the man he is. A lot of his interviews and monologues stuck with me - not the UFC interviews but rather the quiet, sincere ones he gives after a loss or when hes at his home. I resonated with a lot of the things he said regarding you vs you mentality and how he keeps out of mental rutts. He is mature, self aware, wise and seems like a generally great guy at the core.

The footage these guys got of connor's day to day and bts is unmatched, I wonder if connor runs with a camera crew 5 days a week. It felt like a biopic or movie when it comes to the footage rather than a home video/ doc. Unbelievable coverage. The sound scape they built sticks out to me - the right music for the right sequence, the use of risers, hits, eerie sounds, surreals to emphasize punches - the sound scape would constantly be adjusting, shifting and subtly complementing the visuals.

A complaint I have would be the repetition from episode to episode and just as a whole. It was pretty much the same formula where theres a big fight, it follows his training and family life, mindset, injury or setback, etc. This formula is repeated throughout and although I personally didn't mind - its a fair point of criticism.

Overall, this is a must watch for any UFC watchers, Connor fans, or anyone looking to be a fan of either by the end. I grew an immense respect for the guy through this extremely well shot and edited docu series.

Good for what it is!
deadlinedom18 May 2023
Expecting to see a lot of sad reviews from people who just "hate the guy" for no reason.

Overall, this is a good show, it works for the purpose of diving a bit in depth with the guy's life/in and out of the ring. Seeing that he has been out of the game for some time, this comes out a bit late, but he is also on his way back from seeing his massive weight transformation.

I will definitely folllow the show, first episodes didn't dissapoint and looking forward to a bunch more of these fun filled hour long shows.

He's definitely entertaining and this show is too. Enjoy, don't bother with bad reviews from fanboys.

More like McGregor for never again...
aksoy-3843819 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Alright, let's cut to the chase. 'McGregor Forever'? More like 'McGregor's PR Stunt'. This docu-series should've given us the down and dirty on Conor McGregor's life after Mayweather, but instead, it's just one long ad for how Conor is a 'good loser.' Spoiler alert: he's lost four out of his last five fights. And his win was against a old Cowboy dude who never should be in a cage anymore.

The show keeps hammering the same point: Conor is a tough-as-nails fighter who takes losses on the chin. They talk it up like he's still the champ, just having a bit of a bad run. But the series totally glosses over his controversial antics outside the ring, and doesn't even touch on the nitty-gritty about his training, strategies, or what the future looks like for him, but only that he is just rich...

'McGregor Forever' feels like it was made to distract us from the fact that McGregor's glory days might be behind him. They've packaged it up real nice, with flashy editing and production, but there's no substance. It's all the same stuff we've already seen in press conferences and old interviews. When it gets really hard in the dressing room after his loses, than there is no camera or a scene to soon. Because mister Showman chooses when the camera is on to promote.

So all in all, 'McGregor Forever' doesn't give us the real lowdown on McGregor. It's just a shiny, feel-good cover-up that leaves anyone wanting a deeper dive into McGregor's world high and dry. They missed a chance to really show us the man behind the legend, and that's a knockout blow.

Genuine, unfiltered masterpiece
Xiphoner18 May 2023
For someone as famous and successful as Conor McGregor (arguably the biggest combat sports superstar/athlete of all time), it's very rare that we get to see and/or learn something about him that we haven't already.

And yet, this documentary mini-series is filled with never seen before footage; interviews, conversations and interactions between Conor and his family, friends, coaches, and most importantly - himself.

It's just a shame that Conor had no creative input/control over the documentary so they apparently left some stuff out that he would have liked to show, but nevertheless it's a great watch.

The 4 episodes cover just a small chunk of The Notorious' life and career (focusing on the last couple of years), but still delivers incredible insight into the life and mind of a fighter.

  • Injuries and mental struggles (most of which were undisclosed and rarely mentioned, let alone used as an excuse for poor results - even in this series some of the injuries are briefly shown and then moved on from)
  • Everyday sacrifices and commitment of a lifelong martial artist
  • Inspiring internal dialogue and conflict, competitive drive

This documentary is a must-see for not just every athlete and combat sports fan, but every human being in my opinion.

From someone who's neither a fan or hater
fambizzsales22 May 2023
I knew a bit about Conor's history in the UFC so I was somewhat surprised so much of the negative is included here: from the attack on the bus that injured several people, to his community service, to his string of recent losses, and the personal moments just after those losses, there's more of the bad than you usually get in a modern documentary so it's not your typical fluff piece regardless of what some people that hate him claim.

That said, it does skip over some of his more controversial trash talk with Floyd Mayweather and Khabib Nurmagomedov. In fact the entire Doc takes place between Khabib and Portier 3 so four fights total, with a few flashbacks to his "glory days".

All in all, more informative than I expected and a better than average deep dive on the mind of a fighter at McGregor's level. It's popular these days to trash anyone on a losing streak and pretend they were never that great to begin with which is just ridiculous when it comes to McGregor. Hate his attitude, but don't kid yourself, his legacy as one of the greatest fighters that's ever lived is very secure. But I get it, I don't care much for Khabib, but there's no denying the man's skill.

Solid Doc to put in your Wok.
