Funny and Fun to watch, underrated!
DemianZorzi9 April 2020
Not funny the whole time but I don't know what people expect anymore, it was pretty good. I think this movie is underrated for sure though, I've seen comedy movies worse than this one and people think is funny, example "anchorman". There's different times of comedy, gotta give this one a chance. I would watch It again to honest. Don't read other comments, if you like hangover, Harold and Kumar type comedies then you will like this one.

Maybe Not a top rated Box-Office blockbusters type of movie ,, but i really enjoyed it .. A lot ;)
Aktham_Tashtush6 June 2015
I was so surprised with the amount of funny bits on the beginning of the movie.. the idea of three friends always looking out for each other and always stepping in any little thing is not that new but the execution is so fine and fresh and the comedy is shining in abundance, the plot grows smoothly and peaks properly in obvious clear way. The screenplay was really connected and funny,, it was written by Andrew Waller and Mike Gagerman as their second script ever but when you mention it was co-written and directed by Scot Armstrong knowing he co-wrote "The Hangover Part II" that would give you a hint ;)

As for the cast; gosh they were all Hilarious, T.J. Miller is the loose cool guy who doesn't care, Thomas Middleditch is the paranoid always in trouble Naked and being bossed around ;) and Adam Pally is the guy who have a life but it gets ruined by his other friends.. it felt a lot like the cheap version of The Hangover with a less payed guys .-. Adding to the cast, Jason Mantzoukas and J.B. Smoove was a really nice touch.

Overall,, it was really enjoyable as a comedy movie ,, its catchy i laughed , i think that's what matters.

Poor man's Hangover is EXACTLY Right....
djmrmusic1 September 2016
Listen, I had a good solid beer buzz watching this, same as all the Hangover movies. The Hangover movies? I was busting up! THIS movie?!, well OK, I had a few laughs, I don't regret watching it while a bit on the drunk side, but it's really is just a piggy back kinda rip-off of the hangover movies... grab some brews... catch a buzz, you'll be somewhat entertained, but it's not brilliance, or comedic gold by any standard... it is what it is, an attempt to capitalize on the hangover movies...just really REALLY late...lol

what else can I say to make this long enough?!

get some brews first, it will be a bit funnier that way!

In some case, 'friends forever' was mistaken.
Reno-Rangan4 July 2016
Being a B movie, it is not that bad. It is eligible for some minor exceptions and if you consider that while watching it, then it does not disappoint much. Yes, there are many similar films like this, but what makes it somewhat special is that it is quite freely explored its contents without stressing out on detailing everything. I meant it was a simple road adventure film and you would feel it very familiar yet you will realise that it is not worth criticizing it.

The actors were decent, but expected much better. Directed by a newcomer who had written many screenplays similar this theme. Like I said it was quite predictable, at a time decently enjoyable with a few laughs now and then, especially that Mexican police station scene was hilarious. You might get a million reasons to dislike it, but you achieve nothing from it. According to me it was surely a decent watch, hence not a must see, but if you do, then don't take it seriously, try to have fun within its limits.

Not very funny.
Evanoil29 July 2015
I won't lie , This movie made me laugh good two or three times , other scenes kept a smile on my face. To say its a good comedy , probably the answer is yes , Actors are funny and good , the plot is a bit cliché but still it is pretty enjoyable. I would say that 10 more minutes of this movie and i would have hated it , by the end you can notice that the writes were out of original ideas for what is happening. For my taste this comedy deserves your view , i don't understand why some other worse comedies are getting high scores on the sites when this comedy got only 5.5 , its a little underrated , Just give it a chance i think it will be worth your while.

Raucous Hangover/Road Trip-style comedy
derekwinnert26 May 2015
Search Party is welcome as a raucous Hangover/Road Trip-style comedy. But it is not a very good one, though, to be fair, it's not terrible either. The three main actors try very hard to raise laughs, and are reasonably winsome, and there are quite a few laughs dotted throughout the movie and some really funny moments. T.J. Miller and Adam Pally star as early-30somethings Jason and Evan who set off for Mexico to reunite their buddy Nardo (Thomas Middleditch) with Tracy (Shannon Woodward), the woman he was going to marry until Jason disrupted the wedding. Nardo is naked and in a tight situation until he finds a pair of tights, and then he's in a tights situation. At least till he's back naked again. http://derekwinnert.com/search-party-2105-movie-review/

A low-rent version of The Hangover with an overabundance of full-frontal male nudity
ginocox-206-3369687 June 2015
"Search Party" is raunchy and raucous, derivative and more familiar than original. The actors approach the material with a lot of energy, but often seem one-note, although this is largely a consequence of limitations in the script. It offers a fair number of laughs, although some of the material falls flat and some is painfully awkward.

One character spends much of the movie fully nude and to his credit, approaches the role without reservations. But the sheer volume of full-frontal male nudity raises the question of why screenwriters and filmmakers present naked characters on screen. One reason is for erotic stimulation and titillation, which would not seem to be the purpose here. Another might be for comic effect, but that quickly wears thin. The more valid reasons would be to make the character vulnerable or honest. Here we get some comic effect and vulnerability mileage, but neither is exploited fully. Being vulnerable before an anonymous third-world hooker doesn't have the same comic potential as being naked before one's boss, mother- in-law or a capacity crowd at a sports tournament. More judicious presentation of male nudity with greater intensity might have been more successful.

The film's greatest shortcoming is that the characters don't have strong motivations for their outrageous, illogical and dangerous actions. They often seem trying to sell their motivations to the audience and to one another. The motivations should be obvious.

Given the familiar arc of boy meets girl / boy loses girl / boy wins girl back, we should understand the dynamics of each transition and what they see in each other to form our own opinions as to whether they belong together or not. We shouldn't see a couple of drunk, stoned guys sitting in a van presenting detached exposition. We should see the change in both characters. What is her life like without him and his life without her? What do they learn and experience that causes them to realize their mistake and reassess their positions? We don't want to see them embrace and tell one another about it. We should already know.

While the film is similar to "The Hangover" in many respects, there is a significant difference in that the betrothed couple disavow their love for one another. In TH, the three best men merely had to get Doug back in time for the ceremony. In SP, the bride and groom need to prove their love for one another and their worthiness. The journey to Mexico doesn't really cut it, as it could be no more than stalking and an immature refusal to accept rejection. Evan is the one who risks his career to prove his friendship to Nardo, but his initial participation is involuntary. The hardships they endure are unanticipated, so don't have the same dramatic impact as knowingly undertaking risks. Evan chooses to continue the journey rather than returning to salvage his career, but even this is undermined because he later declares ulterior motives. The characters don't reach a point where they deliberately risk everything to achieve their goals. Nor is there a compelling moment when all seems lost.

The film is a pleasant diversion. It's not hilarious, but tries to be funny and often succeeds. Given its obvious budgetary constraints, production values are adequate. It's not cerebral, but doesn't try to be. It tries to be outrageous and often succeeds.

The film is worth viewing and offers a fair number of laughs if ones expectations aren't too high.

I'm losing my sense of humour watching such 'movies'
zalciai18 June 2015
It's something unexpected happening in Hollywood industry: too many actors? Or directors? Or script writers? Or... all? I don't understand, seriously and honestly, how it's possible to make such movies and how actors agree on filming in them. Also... if you saw the Hangover trilogy, this one tastes so bad... actually a tragedy. It's so embarrassing to watch something like this. One more thing - I tried but could't find any single scene or second to laugh from. I think it's the best way to lose your sense of humour watching such nonsenses - so called 'comedies'- the movie crew and director have no idea what humour is. What I've seen here: tasteless scenes, dull surrounding, middle sound, idiotic script. And the plot. Oh wait, what plot?

Im watching this right now.its great.kinda like the zappas & van pattons.Seriously,i think i heard tj miller say this is older than the hangover..the famous film trilogy and also that he was ed helmsley....almost like its a recreation purely made out of boredom and meant for fun.i thought the scenes with the organ harvester shooting his crossbow at the car.were hilarious. And i think i saw that one girl making cooing porn noises in public at a restaurant where i was eating pancakes.

just awful
za_ne23 December 2014
It really is not a good film, it's not even average. With just few laughs throughout the movie I went out disappointed. Not because of my expectations, not at all, but by the fact they thought this movie could actually work. Hangover-ish plot, extremely bad acting and forced dialogues. The black dude posing as Spaniard was one of the worst. I laughed couple of times but most of the time I was laughing in disbelief one could actually put something so crappy on screen. Why show a bare crotch? why use such lame lines? So many questions, so much money spent for nothing. All my bitterness aside- it had some really funny moments but they just couldn't save this movie.

This movie is worth watching.
filmeddows6 July 2016
I just wanna join the people who think this movie is awesome. If you like romantic comedies with ridiculous antics, this film will have you smiling and laughing in no time. It's better than any Sandler or Farrell movie recently released. Anyone who gives this less than a 7 star rating was probably not in the mood for this type of movie. Last night I watched The Hateful Eight and although I'm a massive Tarantino geek I actually enjoyed this more. I might be a little bias as I also love Silicon Valley, but we can't always be in the mood to watch a cinematic master peace. Sometimes we just want to be transported away to a place that doesn't take itself to seriously.

Solid Stoner Comedy
cinemagick31 July 2020
Solid stoner comedy. Good casting and directing. JB Smoove as a wannabe Mexican was pretty funny. That weirdo that played the magician was hilarious. If you don't take it serious you can definitely enjoy this silly ensemble comedy.

Couldn't get past 1st half an hour.
raul_rodgersjr7 July 2016
Absolutely no believable chemistry among the cast. I didn't even laugh once after viewing the film for the 1st 25 minutes. The sad reality is the fact that I am actually a TJ Miller fan but this just did not work out and he could not command this cast or make me believe for once that what was happening could actually happen. The comedians who are actually funny in real life could not act for s@it in this film, pardon my French. The whole interaction between the actors was obviously uncomfortable and awkward. Jokes didn't land and although at points they tried to make certain situations realistically funny, it was not. The pool scene was not funny. They tried to make the situation realistic but it was horrible. Was this film ever screened to an audience, I highly doubt it. I don't know what favors were done for this film but it is so obvious that they just gave this film to TJ Miller and gave him powers and he gave his close comedian friends a break but they cannot gel. This was the complete opposite of The Hangover. This is basically a prime example of what not to do when trying to make a fun road adventure buddy film like The Hangover. Sad attempt. Very Very sad attempt.

only good part was thomas middleditch
alexernstisbae22 January 2022
I really really really wanted to like this movie, i love soo many of the actors and i love how they are together in silicon valley, but this movie is just a knockoff hangover with no chemistry between the actors whatsoever. The only actor in this movie that made me laugh was thomas middleditch. Terrible ending, crazy unrealistic premises. Only gave a 6 because of thomas to be frank, he somehow was the only good part of the movie.

A little half and half
gregtheproduct-5832120 April 2022
Half problematic and half hilarious, just like half the cast. If you know, you know. Also, Did not need to see Tom's Middle-ditch.... this has way more than 150 characters IMDB.

Not a single laugh after 20 minutes.
TheOneThatYouWanted16 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Whoever that one guy is, you know the guy I'm talking about. The guy who happens to be the reason anyone would even watch this movie. He is in this movie but not funny. The poor guy just doesn't have any material to work with. The dialog is dry and unfunny and after 20 minutes of giving this movie a chance, I had to stop watching. I refused to even give it a chance because this is a freaking comedy that didn't even make me crack a smile. Hey, there is a reason this movie is a straight to video deal, because it sucks. I mean, the beginning wedding scene should have been grand and funny and the shot in the arm and blah and whatever. This movie isn't even worth reviewing or watching or whatever. Save your time and skip it, you'll thank me.

Poor Man's Hangover, only not funny
neil-4765 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Nardo is one of three idiot friends. When Jason, the most idiot of the three idiot friends, fouls up Nardo's wedding, Nardo goes after fiancée Tracy, who has gone to Mexico to enjoy the pre-booked honeymoon holiday on her own. After Nardo is carjacked and left naked in remote Mexican badlands, the other two idiots have to go and rescue him.

Search Party badly wants to be The Hangover, and isn't. TJ Miller, who seemed to have cornered the market in annoying idiot friends until Zack Galifinakifianikanifikianikis came along, is as annoying as ever: being annoying isn't necessarily humour, though.

There are precisely four reasons for seeing this movie: they are Shannon Woodward (fiancée Tracy, cute in a bikini), Rosa Salazar (waitress Pocohontas, cute in a short Red Indian outfit), Krysten Ritter (bar pick-up Christy, hot in sexy undies), and Alison Brie (co-worker Elizabeth, opulent in clinging office wear). Conversely, Nardo/Thomas Middleditch's member gets rather more screen time than it deserves, and wasn't a plus point in my book.

This is one of those comedies which substitutes stupid and annoying for funny, as a result of which I found it stupid and annoying. And not funny.

Just terrible, one of the worst movies I've ever seen. Feel sorry for Alison Brie and Lance Reddick, good actors in other projects.

Under rated Worthy Comedy with an undeserved rating
Zaturn23 May 2015
I was looking for a good comedy over the weekend. Happened to come across this, I sort of liked the idea but then I looked at the rating it was given. That kind of put me off. However I still decided to watch it. I must say I was amazed.

Its a hilarious comedy, unpredictable in the are you high kind of way. I thoroughly enjoyed it and specifically wrote this review, my first one to let others know, the rating is deceptive, it has been for some reason underrated which this title does not deserve.

I have given it an 8. I think it deserves that.

If you are looking for a fun over the weekend unpredictable comedy for good laughs, this is it.

Couldn't leave zero stars
christophersarles5 May 2019
This movie had great cast but typical of comedies today, they take a funny idea or scene and add more and more and more and more and more and more until it is SO over the top, unrealistic and just leaves you feeling like a fool for still watching, when you instead could be, um, balancing your checkbook. There are NO people on the earth that could be this stupid or this incompetent it ceases to be funny and rapidly becomes annoying. At this point I have about 30 min left, and just have to finish it. Just so I NEVER am tempted to watch it again, thinking MAYBE it had a good ending. The fact that it eventually ENDED, is a good ending.

Unbelievably Bad
uhohspgto30 March 2020
This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. The fact that it even has a 5.6 rating currently blows my mind. There seems to be a consensus among reviewers that it's hilarious if you're stoned or really drunk. I can't imagine being under any substance enough to find humor in this atrocious film.

A Lower Grade Hangover Movie That Still Delivers Plenty of Laughs
NDbportmanfan23 April 2017
Search Party is about two friends that have to try and rescue Nardo as well as Nardo's relationship with Tracy. This movie does have a similar feeling to the Hangover movies but Search Party lacks the writing and overall direction of the trilogy. What I found this movie to have that the Hangover doesn't is great comedic actors. This might just be personal preference but I find Pally, Miller, and Middleditch to be a lot funnier with their timing and physical comedy. The overall cast is about the only reason I gave this movie a try. I even got a Garfunkel and Oates song in there so that was another plus.

The bad would be the writing as some of the lines were cringing, especially with Middleditch. The movie didn't seem to flow as nicely as the Hangover or for that matter look as sharp. As I said earlier that the three headlines are really funny but their characters were not the best. Pally is supposed to be a semi successful business dude but it never comes off that way. The whole angle of Pally being the put together one of the group didn't vibe with me and it felt out of place. T.J Miller is the typical T.J Miller character so no real complaint there. Middleditch is a combination of Doug and Alan from the Hangover which is fine but they made him overly stupid. So much so that it seemed to downgrade the movie altogether. The supporting cast had some time to shine and I appreciated all of their scenes overall.

I would give this movie a pass unless you are a fan of these actors like I am. Even then I would proceed with caution and low expectations.

Funny at times, outrageously bad and of poor taste at other times.

Movie would have been lot better, if the writers thought about it with some common sense. Some scenes were hilarious, but some dumb and dumber. Not a total waste of time, but almost there.

Watch this movie stoned.
luis1234567118 June 2015
Man... I don't know if it was the weed, but I laughed the hell out of this film.

I have never laughed so much (I swear). And, even though it is a comedy, the movie follows an actual pattern and is not a bunch of jokes dropped all over the length of it. The jokes are funny, the acting is hilarious, the story is a little predictable, but still interesting. This movie made my day and somehow got me laid.

I'm not gonna go into spoilers (Mostly because you don't need them to know what's gonna happen), but I'll say it's got a hungover-like style and lots ridiculously funny stuff.

It's a comedy of errors... without a lot of comedy
ten-thousand-marbles19 April 2020
This movie obviously wants to be Hangover and just falls flat. The story is stale and uninteresting. The characters and script are mostly cringe worthy. The character of Jason tries to be the happy go lucky guy who always has something funny to say. I found him annoying and mostly just wanted to slap him. Though it had a few good laughs (just a few) Search Party is a waste of time.
