Netflix has turned comments off on the new Queen Cleopatra trailer on YouTube after receiving huge amounts of backlash online for historically revisiting the identity of Cleopatra. The latest "documentary series" to hit the streaming platform recently released a trailer that depicts Cleopatra as a Black woman.
The death of Cleopatra VII, the last ruler of Ptolemaic Egypt, occurred on either 10 or 12 August, 30 BC, in Alexandria, when she was 39 years old.
Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass said that during one of his lectures in Los Angeles he was protested by people objecting to his refusal to consider Cleopatra being black.
Experts have been searching for Cleopatra's tomb for decades. Archaeologists continue searching for the mausoleum of the last Queen of Egypt, and there are several theories about where she was buried. Egyptologists and archaeologists have scoured the land of Egypt but have yet to find the tomb of Queen Cleopatra.
Officially, only seven princesses with the name 'Cleopatra' are credited as sitting on the throne of Egypt, although there is some confusion over the length of reigns and the degree of real power held. The last, Cleopatra VII, is the most famous, thanks to her romantic dalliances with Julius Caesar and Mark Antony.
